Re: CANDIDS II

Just one question: Did Doris or Howard keel the turkey?

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Re: HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Let me also thank you, Moira, for brightening the Holiday with humor suitable to the SSO. It's jumping the gun a bit (rather like the department stores), but your comment on " rather grisly or non-family fare movies being promoted as holiday fare for the Thanksgiving crowd!" reminded me of...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Thanks for the info, Kingrat. Haven't heard of either of these films and will certainly look them up. The blitz was a fascinating part of the war story, often lost, at least on this side of the pond, in favor of the activities that took place after we became directly involved.

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

I put together a WWII double bill that I really enjoyed and think some of our members might find interesting, at least from an historical perspective. First up, The Boy from Stalingrad (1943 Columbia). Although 3 adult actors have small parts as Nazi officers and there are 11 extras playing German s...

Re: Buster Keaton

Let's face it. The General is the ideal film to demonstrate to young people who won't even watch a film that isn't in color much less SILENT that we old folks know whereof we rant!

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Truly agree, Eric. It's an always-entertaining classic. All the more amazing when you consider when and how it was made. With all their computer graphics tricks, today's films are rarely entertaining on a second viewing. I don't think they're likely to still be watched 80 years from now.

Re: OUR FAVORITE TRAMP

Thanks for the kind words. Just though of another one from one of the most glamorous tramps, Elizabeth Taylor:

Re: OUR FAVORITE TRAMP

Side thought. It’s amazing how many good “tramp” quotes there are. For example: “As long as they’ve got sidewalks, you’ve got a job.” (Footlight Parade) “It took more than one man to change my name to Shanghai Lily.” (Shanghai Express) “They hire girls like me to entertain the visiting exhibitor.” (...

Re: OUR FAVORITE TRAMP

Just realized we've been ignoring the most famous tramp of all, portrayed by both steamy seductress Joan Crawford and breathtakingly beautiful Rita Hayworth. She was, of course: On the isle of Pago Pago, land of palm trees, rice and sago, Where the fishermen to play go, and swim the natives in the n...

I, too, would like to say Thanks PT for the lead. Lots to listen to there, and I even discovered that Bob and Ray are still not forgotten.

Re: OUR FAVORITE TRAMP

Clearly, Charlie will always be everyone's favorite Tramp.

But, then again, there's:

Re: CANDIDS II

Didn't know Edna May and Marie shared the same Birthday. Wonder if those two greats ever got together to celebrate?

If so, would love to have been a fly on the wall.

Thanks for the great candids of them.

Re: Author Preston Neal Jones Q & A November 1 & 2

I constantly fear the day one of my programs is going to need to be upgraded. (I still use WordPerfect, and if it were possible, it would still be the DOS version.) Don’t lose faith, Preston, someday computers will be easy to use. Unfortunately, we won’t be around to see it; at that point those too-...

No hangover, I promise, as long as you also eat the kettle.
