I had this on my calendar, but I put alot of movies on my calendar and whether they're watched is often left to the Fates. Mr. Arkadin's post nudged me in the correct direction and for that I thank him. This was the sixth Michael Powell film I've watched and the second non-Archer film ( PEEPING TOM ...

I have watched remarkably few made-for-TV movies over the years, but three have always stood out for me: Duel -- I wouldn't argue with anyone who takes the position that this is Spielberg's best movie (other than AI: Artificial Intelligence , but I always think of that as Kubrick's). I'm a sucker fo...

Two rousing tunes to mark the anniversaries of two sad events. On January 14, 1992, the New York Dolls ' drummer, Jerry Nolan , passed away. From a 1974 Don Kirschner's Rock Concert TV broadcast, and heavy on the tom-toms, here's Trash . ...

Thank you for showcasing one of the greatest voices in rock'n'roll. I Wonder Why is a doo-wop that I never tire of. Not too many Italian doo-woppers from the Bronx had that touch of country and blues that Dion had. I read somewhere that he said that Hank Williams was his favorite singer.

I remember Twelve 0:Clock High and The Rat Patrol intros, but never watched the entire shows. Combat was the only dramatic military TV show I watched regularly. The other military TV shows I watched and enjoyed regularly were The Phil Silvers Show (aka Sergeant Bilko ), Hogan's Heroes , Gomer Pyle, ...

Two favorites that I should have included in my first post: The Wonder Years -- Funny and touching, although the Kevin-Winnie romance in the later episodes started to wear on me. And it is my favorite Daniel Stern work post- Diner . Buffalo Bill -- The anti- The Wonder Years ? Dabney Coleman certain...

Shortly before Christmas, I finished Scott Eyman's Print the Legend: The Life and Times of John Ford . Immediately started On Sunset Boulevard: The Life and Times of Billy Wilder (Sikov), but at about the one-third mark, I received Jonathan Rosenbaum's Discovering Orson Welles as a present. When I'v...

I never realized there were so many 30 minute westerns? I hadn't really occurred to me, but when I think of TV Westerns, it is the 30-minute Western that comes to mind. Were my viewing habits skewed, or did the 30-minute Western get supplanted by the 60-minute Western in the early '60s? I remember ...

I'm sorry, but Cheyenne is disqualified -- it was a 60-minute program. I lived in front of the TV in the '50s and '60s (much to my parents' chagrin) and loved the 30-minute Western. With the exception of Maverick , the 60-minute Western usually dragged for me (never enjoyed the iconic Bonanza ), tho...
