Dewey: I used to enjoy "Raymond" until he got to be such an idiot. The longer the show ran the more of an idiot he became and I couldn't stand him. In fact, that's part of my problem with sitcoms is that most of the men are weak and not very smart. The wife or the kids don't really respect...

Anne: I'm not holding them blameless, I'm just not holding them fully responsible. It's worse in Europe. In my suburban Baltimore area it's about $2.95 per gallon. (When I first started driving it was about 50 cents a gallon.) I understand how hard it is to keep the car running. I don't think what y...

Could be, but I don't think they own any of the oil fields in the Middle East or Africa or Russia or Venezuela or Mexico. One thing that will help is if Congress would get off of their fanny and allow the construction of new refineries. It's not always the oil as much as the refineries can't keep up...

Re: Stars in My Crown

Joel McCrea, like Randolph Scott (cue chorus) is one of the most underappreciated actors of his generation. Their careers seem to run parallel in a fashion. They started out doing regular pictures, dramas, comedies and end up almost exclusively in westerns. McCrea is wonderful in "Palm Beach S...

If you know Elam from his early western roles and how nasty he was, i.e. "Rawhide", "The Man From Laramie", his turn in "Sheriff" is all the more and amazing for how funny he was in that role.

Even had his own TV show late in life.

Mike:

I think "Hail The Conquering Hero" qualifies. In fact if it has Sturges' finger prints on it it should qualify.

Lynn:

One of my favorite bits of the Smothers Brothers was the responsibility of the folk singer to "take it" when it is thrown his way. The idea of a musician saying no is too funny. What added to their act was the fact that they harmonize so wonderfully and are decent musicians.

The Smothers Brothers had a show before their variety show? I don't remember the song but the lyrics point only to them.

Gleason had a wonderful orchestra. My mother had some of his albums. They were full of wonderfully lush, romantic and beautiful arrangements.

And, of course, since Perry is looking at his national propects, he hasn't affected much change, either. A property tax mess, educational chaos, wasted tax dollars, misappropriated funds, unorganized immigrant issues, and unfunded mandates. Unfortunately, it sounds as if he'll fit well in Washington.
