Re: Gay and Streaming

Yes, the ending of FELLOW TRAVELERS was powerful, with the quilt on the National Mall, and the effective ending when Hawk's daughter asks, "Was that your friend?" and Hawk is able to answer, "No, that was the man I loved." Once again we have male nudity, with Hawk and Tim dancing...

:(
Which means that MegaCompany can either curate, preserve, and show most of the classic era films or can ignore them or worse.

Re: I Just Watched...

it's been long enough since RYAN O'NEAL passed (two weeks?), I'll post this now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9KyBdPeKHg Thank you for making my day! I was laughing hysterically. Trouble is, Ryan O'Neal's line readings are rarely a lot better than this. Not many actors have had as big a career ...

Re: I Just Watched...

"Don't change a word of the script" is often a kiss of death. For instance, Lindsey and Crouse, authors of LIFE WITH FATHER, then the longest-running play on Broadway ever, had that in their contract for the book of MR. PRESIDENT, Irving Berlin's last musical. Apparently some of the jokes ...

Re: I Just Watched...

I'll quit talking about ALTERED STATES soon (although I make the sidenote that GOD, I'VE MISSED IT WHEN WE HAVE A GROUP DISCUSSION ABOUT A FILM, ESPECIALLY A WEIRD ONE)... however... there's one more thing that's worth talking about and that is WILLIAM HURT (side note- I keep thinking WILLIAM HOLDE...

[/quote] The character of Elijah in GIRLS was indeed a piece of work. He was like the Sue Ann Nivens of the show (there were a lot THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW parallels including at least one direct reference). One of my favorite Elijah quotes: "If you could maybe give me an introduction to the B...

Re: National Film Registry

Thank you for posting this. Kind of a meh list overall. Yes to DINNER AT EIGHT, LADY AND THE TRAMP, and APOLLO 13. Ten years is much too soon for eligibility.

Re: I Just Watched...

We enjoyed THE FAMILY PLAN, which plays out exactly as you expect it to, but is competently made. Lots of people are killed, but no blood and gore, which suits me fine. This is sort of a family film if the Disney dad were an ex-assassin (this has been revealed in the trailer for the film). Mark Wahl...

Re: Gay and Streaming

Only one more episode of FELLOW TRAVELERS, the show which started this thread. Episode 7 features the aftermath of Harvey Milk's murder and a summer on the gay section of Fire Island. A fair amount of male nudity, include a brief frontal shot, and once again Matt Bomer's derriere is on display. The ...

Re: I Just Watched...

JOURNAL OF A CRIME is officially too early to be a film noir, but it sure feels like one. Tiki, would you settle for a version where the women fight and the winner gets the clothes, the loser gets the man?

Re: Gay and Streaming

I'm wondering if there are any series that present sexual intercourse between male same-sex partners with the realistic awkwardness and clumsiness that often accompanies sexual activities even between partners in ongoing relationships. The series GIRLS (2012-2017) did a good job with its frank and ...
