Lynn, I don't mind at all. Be my guest. It is an important thread to honor and remember those who have contributed, no matter how small, to our pleasure and interest in the arts. Character/supporting actress Alice Backes passed away on March 15th at the age of 83. Miss Backes is familiar to T...

If ever there was a performance that deserved an Oscar nomination it was Long Chaney Jr. as Lenny. A terrible oversight by the Academy.
So what else is new?

I always look forward to the finale of this movie since it takes place on the Williamsburg Bridge. I lived in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and when a kid use to walk over the bridge to the lower east side on Delancey St. where Universal filmed many of the scenes in he movie. Times have changed since 1948 ...

"Cry of the City"

The film noir "Cry of the City" (1948) is one of my favorites from 20th Century-Fox. The film has good performances by Richard Conte and Victor Mature. Conte is great with his soft-spoken voice and shifty eyes. Mature turns in a superior performance. The best scenes though are with the big...

I have a fondness for the Mummy series of Universal films with Lon Chaney Jr. For some reason they just give me the creeps with this ancient bandaged ghoul roaming around both night and day. My favorite is "The Mummy's Ghost". Also like "Captive Wild Woman" with Acquanetta as Pa...

I think that Joan Leslie hit the jackpot in her career. Co-starring opposite James Cagney in "Yankee Doodle Dandy", Gary Cooper in "Sergeant York", Bogart in "High Sierra", Henry Fonda in "The Male Animal", Ida Lupino in "The Hard Way", Fred Astaire ...

A bright spot in "Scared Stiff" was Jerry Lewis performing a Carmen Miranda number as she also appeared in the movie. Also good to see Lizabeth Scott romping around the haunted house in just a shirt.
As far as overall quality and humor it's "Ghost Breakers" hands down.

Rosalind Russell is a versatile actress who really didn't get the kudos she deserved. Although she was nominated 4 times for the Oscar, she never won. Her turn should have came with "Auntie Mame". I enjoyed her roles in "Roughly Speaking" (lousy title for such a film), "Sist...

"The Sunshine Boys"

This movie cracks me up at every viewing. Walter Matthau and George Burns are a delight as the old vaudeville team reunited after many years apart. The one liners are priceless.

If the lovely and talented Alice Faye had more exposure on TCM she would not be forgotten. Since TCM don't have much access to her 20th Century-Fox films we are out of luck and she remains dormant. I catch her films on occasion on the Fox Movie Channel and she is a joy to behold in Technicolor. Also...

Just watched "Capote" for the first time and thought Philip Seymour Hoffman was mesmerizing in the title role.
Also very good were "King Kong", and "United 93" although depressing.

"Nightmare Alley" is a gem of a film-noir with perhaps Tyrone Power's finest performance. I still have the movie on VHS which I taped from AMC years ago.

My favorite will have to be "Double Indemnity".
