Re: A Liberal Comeback in the UK ?
I'm staying in Essex at the moment. I don't know if there will actually be a liberal comeback, but their chances seem to have been upped enormously. This election just got a lot more interesting to read about.

I hope so too, Brenda. You would love this area, it's a cultural landscape with so much history.

Re: Happy Birthday, Charliechaplinfan!
Hi! It has been a while since I posted here. I hope some of you remember me. I got a message from Alison, aka Victoralice. She said she and her family are well, but since much of the European air traffic is at a standstill, they are all stranded in Spain. They've heard of a cruise ship that might ar...

It didn't help him, did it? I can understand Mary's urge to protect her family though, she must have been used to it since she had been a family provider since she was 5 years old. I saw a film recently, the only Douglas Fairbanks film that starred Mary Pickford in a cameo part, The Gaucho . It is d...

Re: HELP WITH A DILEMMA
Alison, I can't really add to the advice here but it seems to me that you should talk more to your doctor at least, and be clear on how your body is doing and what you could do to remedy it. Keeping occupied is also a good thing, so that you can keep up the urge to be occupied, as movieman says, eve...

I thought Jack did alright, but then again I was prejudiced against him as a leading man because to me he looks so goofy. I would like to see Tom Sawyer, that was his big hit. Exit Smiling is a great little film! Beatrice Lillie wasn't like any other comedic actress at that time. I actually thought ...

Ignoring Hitler could lead to genocide. On the other hand, keeping a bit cool could lead to peace. But heck, arguing's fun. Re. the history lesson, it's a good summary, certainly the downfall of the economy, which he had predicted for years, was the big reason for why he gained popularity. However, ...

Alison, it's nice to read about your day with Chris - that sounds like a fun place to go shopping! Did you dye your hair? I am glad to read that you are finding ways to cheer each other up, you two seem really good for each other.
Birdy, you are a great friend.

Alison, words can't express how sorry I am, they are inadequate. All I can say is that I'm sorry for your loss, and for how much pain you are being put through right now, and all of your family. You really don't deserve this, nobody does. Remember that you have friends.

Knitwit45, how amazing to have witnessed that development. Society has changed so much in such a relatively short time. It's mind-boggling when you think about it. Well, according to my grandfather there is a much greater awareness of things like racism now. He told me that when he was young people ...

Yes indeed, it's a beautiful name. I like the character too. In Wild Strawberries you get to mostly see the professor's good side, you have to infer from the people around him what he can be like. That he pretty much kills people with kindness, showing too much mercy to his wife and making it seem t...
