Re: Stop Making Sense (1984)
Easily the best concert film of all time, and it's not close.

Re: Wizards (1977)
Bakshi has always had a bend toward the crude, but I love his style. I believe the designs for this one were done by Frank Frazetta, but I might have confused it with another Bakshi film of the time.

Re: I Just Watched...
Last Saturday, in my continuing exposure of my fiancée to classic film, we watched two Cary Grant gems. Mr Blandings Builds his Dream House (1948) and The Awful Truth (1937). I must have good taste and a good read on what she will enjoy, because she liked both of them a lot. :) I think it was smart ...

Re: Had to create a new email to get here....
There's no winning, really. If I make it very easy to register (as I have done) then it also makes it easier for spam accounts to get in. There is the "captcha" part of the registration, which saves us from a LOT of spammers, but some of them are going to get by. On the other hand, if I ma...

(...now, I have no idea why this keeps happening and especially because when I get that sign-in page that appears, I always check the "remember me" box in it...perhaps Lomm might know why this keeps happening?) Early on there was an issue where if you logged in from a different IP address...

Re: Home Alone 2 Actor Indicted
As hilarious as this might be to me personally, I think we should leave the politics for other boards.

I can change the username for you I think. There is no old account cigarjoe, so if you want it to be that or "cigarthejoe" I can do either. Need to know from you because you'll have to log in with the new name so I want to be sure you see this and tell me...don't want to lock you out again...

The obvious is the superhero film franchises. All of them.

I'm sure they are evoking the song of the same name.

Re: Vertigo remake
A remake which I think is much better than the original is The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956). I think this is one of Hitchcock's greatest films, and also one of his most underrated. Yes, that's the one I was referring to of course, agree completely it's a much better film, and one of his best overall.

Re: Vertigo remake
Remakes have a long tradition in cinema, of course. Sometimes I'm happier with the remake than the original. Hell, Hitch even remade his own film once! However...I don't want to see someone else's take on a Hitchcock film again. I've seen two instances of this, both the same property (Psycho). One w...

Re: I Just Watched...
Saturday we watched Libeled Lady, another in a line of my attempts to get my fiancee into the classics. We also watched trailers for 4 other Powell/Loy movies, all of which she said she'd like to watch, so those will be coming up in the next several weeks. Libeled Lady, as you may recall, is quite t...

Re: I Just Watched...
Maverick was basically a retread of the first film. I enjoyed watching it (Tom Cruise seldom disappoints really), but I really don't understand all the hype around it, much less the Best Picture nomination.

Re: Really? You've NEVER seen that Classic Film?
I don't find the birds in "The Birds" scary at all. In fact, when they attack the school kids, I think it was because they were so sick of that annoying song that the kids were singing. The birds were really doing everyone a favor. This will likely be the funniest thing I see today. I sho...
