Re: LISTS

To be honest, I can't comment on the last 20 years. Most of what I watch is so disappointing I'm not inspired toward increased viewing. As for the 1970s and 80s, there were good ones. There were great ones. But the work of Altman, Scorcese and Spielberg doesn't entertain me as much as that of their...

Re: LISTS

The 1960s. The culture changed. Music changed. Promising leaders were taken from us. And the era of classic movies came to a crashing end. Never again (so far) would the quality of American cinema be as consistently entertaining as it had previously been. Films of this decade initiated changes in t...

Re: To Dream of Dogs

Here is my Bella. She just turned 9 in December. Our family pooch, a mix of basset and beagle, who even though she has a few psychological scars from being in a puppy mill, she is the most wonderful pet we have ever had. She has been and will always be close to our hearts.

Re: TCM Message Boards Announcement

Well this seems to be an attempt by the administrators at TCM to totally take down the existing system and replace it with a system that is not only with the times but also can be upgraded at some point in the future, something the old system really had a lot of issues with. And the fact that they a...

Re: LISTS

Yeah I have been reading the threads started by TopBilled over at TCM. Only thing is that I have my own LISTS thread as well over thereon the Favorites Forum, but for some reason he felt the need to start yet another thread about the same subject. He does that a lot.

Re: Merry Christmas!

Wishing you all a very merry Christmas and hopefully a much better new year 2014! I posted the following photo over on the TCM Message Boards a few days ago and I think it captures the feeling I had when I was a child and hope to have again someday. The photo is of my family at Christmas in 1967. I ...

Re: Choo-choo-choose Your Own Essentials!

There have been some very fine lists of films being included in an Essentials List. But I have looked at it again and have felt that more different films could be recommended for inclusion. So what I have done is to make a list that has 100 films on it. I mean if you are really into list making this...

Re: Mini Series. More to come?

I just read with much interest that yet another mini-series is scheduled to debut sometime late in 2013..... From Wikipedia: To Appomattox is an upcoming American television eight-hour miniseries centering around the military service of General Ulysses S. Grant, leading up to the surrender of Genera...

Re: Mini Series. More to come?

Well I just saw this earlier today.... Spielberg and Hanks are again reuniting to produce another WWII mini series for HBO entitled: Masters of the Air It is going to be about the B-17 bomber raids over Germany. A story told so well in Twelve O'Clock High and Command Decision. Here is a press releas...

Re: Mini Series. More to come?

With the surprising (at least to critics) success of "The Bible" and also that of "The Hatfields and The McCoys" are we ready for a revival (pardon the pun) of the miniseries? Have you seen any of either? Do you like limited series television over weekly shows? If so, what would...

Re: LISTS

Hi ChiO, I must say as white bread as my list is, yours is very eclectic. I have seen many of them, but I guess when you get right down to it, the films I chose are films I grew up with. Being born in 1960, and having come of age in the mid to late 70's, many of these films were being broadcast on t...

Re: Chicago, Chicago, That Toddlin' Town . . .

That was really nice of you Anne to relate how you originally "hated" the city but now have found out all of these nuggets of information about the city and are looking forward to visiting some of what the city has to offer this summer. I lived in the Chicago suburbs from July 1975 until D...

Re: Debbie Reynolds...

Hi Fxreyman, Firstly, my empathy for your wife. Also, although I have never met or seen Debbie Reynolds, I can tell you her son, Todd, is a first class "a--hole" with rude manners and no redeeming features. I had an incident with him in 1998 at his mother's casino in Las Vegas and after t...

Re: Debbie Reynolds...

Unfortunately not every old-style, or classic actor or actress is always that nice to be around. My wife was in the Philadelphia airport a few years back and because she has trouble walking she asked to be transferred by one of those four wheeled flat vehicles with the seats on the back. Well it cam...
