Re: What recent films have you seen?
I'm seeing ads for DIARY OF A TEENAGE GIRL. That looks good. I usually don't respond to a 30 second preview. This one just looks right! And I agree with Western Guy. More often than not, a Robert Redford film is worth the time. LIONS FOR LAMBS not withstanding (ouch!), he tells a good story.

Soldier of Fortune
Clark Gable, Susan Hayward in Edward Dmytryk adventure. I had resisted this one for years; didn't think it would be too good. And it's not one of the all-time greats. But it's intriguing and entertaining, with charming players in good form. (Were these actors ever in bad form?) Hayward's husband, Ge...

Ms. Gray's brief appearance in RED RIVER is impressive. She makes her mark in NIGHTMARE ALLEY. But it's the Kubrick thriller that best shows her talent. She plays lonely, desperate Fay with great sensitivity.

I really enjoyed THE KISS OF THE VAMPIRE! It's colorful, creepy, literate. Not sure I'd seen it before. This is top notch Hammer horror.

Re: The Window
Terrific little thriller. Exciting and personal. I love this type of story. Small and intimate; effective due to those virtues. Cornell Woolrich story? I'm not sure about that, but I believe I recall as much!

Had a busy weekend. Didn't see much of SHADOW OF THE CAT. What I saw looked interesting. Quirky, to say the least! I wouldn't mind watching the whole thing someday.

So, SHADOW OF THE CAT is on next week. Is this one I haven't seen? Or have I merely forgotten it? What is it like?

The negative review is almost inevitable. People like to spoil the party. I might not like it myself. But I sure plan to find out!

I heard on his first night Hollywood, he and Peter O'Toole got arrested. I wonder if alcohol was involved!

Re: To Kill A Mockingbird
Am I overreacting in thinking this is the most exciting literary event in decades? Even Hemingway and his contemporaries didn't go unpublished for 50 years. And this one features some, or at least one, of the same beloved characters. This is monumental!

CULT OF THE COBRA is an absolute delight. What makes a great movie? Theme, character, construction? Or does fun count? On the fun scale, this is a classic!

That does sound fascinating. Sometimes "filmed theatre" is spellbinding.
