John, I think you might enjoy my JAZZ BABY movie night too...
With "Auntie Mame" and "Thoroughly Modern Millie."

Where's The "Beef?"

Nancy, that was the '47 version...Daves played Beef in the '30 version-which also included Cliff "Jiminy Cricket" Edwards, Penny "Blondie"/"Jane Jetson"Singleton and the notorious Bessie Love in the cast.

Piece a-cake...

Hi, John It's really easy to "embed" a YouTube video with the "function" Jon added. On the "Post a reply" page across from "Message body" you'll see the various "function" buttons...YouTube is the last one. Just click it before you paste your link an...

Phone sex?

I totally agree with you MissG-his movies do feature "misfits" attempting to fit into "normal" society... And you took the words right out of my mouth, Chris, with much more eloquence-the surroundings and "inanimate objects" in his movies "play almost like characte...

Viva Cuba

That sounds fantastic, Chris! Trader Joe's recently introduced a new product-Cuban Black Beans (in a can.) I'm hooked on 'em!

MOVIE NIGHT

Here's my game of "let's pretend-" We are all (physical) neighbors. One night a week we have a MOVIE NIGHT. It's your week to host. What music would you play as guests arrive? What snacks/drinks would you serve? And, most important, what two movies (from your personal collection) would you...

Rita Cansino

Hollis, "The Lone Wolf Spy Hunt" (1939) is on TCM saturday 10:00 AM EDT. It sounds like a fun "B movie" detective story with Warren William, Ida Lupino and Rita-before the height of her "sex symbol" status. I'd also love to see some of her later roles-including Clifford...

The Lavender Girl

I'd love to see "The Legend Of Lylah Clare!" I wonder why it's never played on TCM...or has it? It's from MGM. Too bad it didn't air with Aldrich's "The Killing Of Sister George" during the Screened Out series. I worked with a woman once who lived in San Jose, CA in the '80's. Sh...

Rock the boat...

sugarpuss, somehow I haven't managed to see the '51 version of "Show Boat." (Or the '29 version.) James Whale's version is one of my favorite movie musicals and it has an effective melodramatic pre-code feel to it. Irene Dunne is great as Magnolia Hawks. (Her "shuffle" is a hoot!...

"I'll knock you so flat, they could play you on a Victr

Thanks for creating this thread, Mike. I recently watched "The Red House" on The Internet Archive and LOVED it! Another great performance from Edward G. Robinson. A very spooky atmospheric movie about secrets and lies...and repression- with a terrific Miklos Rozsa score. I was most familia...

RIP

Thank you for "Aunt Stephanie's" warning to Dill to stay away from the Radley house, Lynn. Alice played a perfect neighborhood gossip. (I'm sure we've all had one of those.) I just wish she'd had more scenes. I'm sure I was introduced to her on "Bewitched." Later, seeing her in &...

"Give me your hand. Give me your hand."

I have to agree with Chris on this one...a thought provoking "cinematic question mark." OK, it is slow and plodding and the screenplay/dialogue is a little weak...however, it is visually stunning with a magnificent haunting score AND has one of Jimmy Stewart's best (and most offbeat) perfo...

"...will find it hard to sleep tonight"

The December schedule looks like fun! Lots of pre codes and lots of William Wellman...the anniversary of his death? December, '75. The Christmas fare is the usual stuff...not there's anything wrong with that, but I was hoping for some rare treats. Also looking forward to "Thirteen Women," ...

Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble...

I'm like you, Judith. I love spinning my spice rack around and saying, "Hmm, I wonder how this would taste?" We rarely have dinner guests so I don't get a lot of feedback, but the other night a friend dropped by during dinner. I made chilli. He commented that I "had a great combinatio...

Dewey and Judith, you both reminded me of a favorite "Sesame Street" song from Steve Zuckerman- "Capital I" And who doesn't remember "Mahna Mahna" http://www.youtube.com/...
