I love old movies, my hisband tolerates them but he likes John Mills. Our favorites are Hobson's Choice, Ice Cold In Alex, This Happy Breed, The Family Way and Ryan's Daughter. A very versatile actor :)

I think Claire Bloom was chosen because of her resemblance to Oona. How Charlie talks about Oona in his autobiography is so touching. A man very much in love with his wife.

My favorite scores are from The Kid and Limelight too.

Yesterday I got chance to see Little Annie Rooney for the first time. Mary plays the tomboy so well at 33, she's delighful in the fight scenes, making mischief with such gusto. As a homemaker looking after her policeman father and brother she shows the care and attention that little girls show when ...

It's so frustrating to be able to read about these comedians and not be able to find any of their work. Thankfully Charley Chase's comedies have been released by Kino, Langdon's getting more released, I have watched The Arbuckle and Keaton films too. I recently attended an event run by Paul Merton c...

Hi, sorry I missed this post before, I'm still getting used to finding my way around the forum. I'm from Lancashire in the North West of England. I would have thought the biggest difference would be the climate. He's welcome to contact me via the forum.

One film I'd absolutely love to see. Recently I've watched Master Of The House by Dreyer. A fabulous film about a woman who is working herself to death looking after her family and a husband who is king of his house and goes out of his way to make life more difficult for her. The wife is whisked awa...

I agree Man's Castle is an absolute gem. I think it is one of Spencer Tracy's best performances.

I've just had my first chance to see William Haines, the film was Show People a film I'd wanted to see for so long. I love Marion Davies in this and The Patsy. William Haines gave a very good performance too. Is this his usual character in all of his films?

:D I've just finished reading Charles Chaplin's autobiography. It is a fascinating read, it gives an insight in to the mind of the man behind the Tramp. He's very fond of using long words. Pola Negri says that when she was dating him he would read a dictionary every day to pick up five new words. I ...

Although a big fan of Mr Chaplin and silent comedy, I simply love musicals. 1 SINGIN' IN THE RAIN - not only the best musical and one of the happiest films ever made but possibly the best film ever made. I simply can't take my eyes off this film, especially the Broadway Ballet 2 GIGI - Romantic and ...

:D movieman1957 Neighbours is one of my favorite Buster shorts so far. The way he rescues his girl is ingenius, a comedy reworking of Romeo and Juliet. I have seen One Week, I've been trying to watch his shorts in order but a couple I have seen before. So far I've seen One Week, The High Sign, The G...

Well now I've watched Why Worry and I did enjoy it. I sometimes think that some of the gags in Harolds films could be tightened up a little but that's only nitpicking. It was quite ingenious of Harold to use John Aasen a giant and use him to great effect. (I thought Eric Campbell was tall in the Mut...
