Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
I knew you were going to lose it Maven when Arthur Hill was mentioned! I think he's quite good looking, and he made a generally favorable impression on me in A Little Romance, as the step dad who actually cares about his wife's kid. I really like him. He could be Samuel S. Hinds son, dontcha think? ...

Sugar has good taste!
Lily doesn't watch much TV, but she WAS upset on Lee Tracy day... something about Tracy's voice made her bark every time he said something.

Re: Favourite Time Travel Yarns
Oooh, I thought of two more! Les Visiteurs , a fairly recent french film about a knight and his lackey who are sent forward in time by a senile old wizard. They encounter modern day problems and their own descendants, who cause more complications. Roman Scandals - I know, it's a reach! But I like it...

Oh well, I guess It Happened Tomorrow doesn't really fit then. That's OK, I'm sure I can come up with another time travel film.

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
You know I'm on board for this picture... Anthony Quinn AND Ingrid Bergman? Wow. I can't believe I don't know about it. Despite the reservations, your review makes me want to see this film, Maven. I know exactly what you mean about Bergman, the most sensual and emotive of actresses. She's like a Str...

Re: Summer Under the Stars August 2014 Schedule on TCM
I loved your take on Betty Grable, JF. She definitely grows on me though I find some of the Fox musicals blur together for me. The Dolly Sisters (1945) was one that always stood out, in part because of the surreal costumes times two, not to mention all the loopy plot and songs. I always find someth...

Re: Summer Under the Stars August 2014 Schedule on TCM
I had a blast yesterday hanging out with Betty Grable. Betty used to confound me... I never really knew why she became a star, aside from a stubborn resoluteness that kept her plugging away in Hollywood for ten years when a lesser woman would have quit. Well, yesterday, I found out the "somethi...

Re: Favourite Time Travel Yarns
PT - Quantum Leap was my very favorite show for the few years it was on. It was like a throwback to the great early TV era. Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell were just great, and some of the storylines got really complex and serious - best were the tie-ins with other episodes, like the Vietnam era one...

Me too, KR! Me too. Stone - I think William Talman gave Neville Brand a run for his money in The Hitchhiker on Wednesday morning. I had never seen the 1953 Edmond O'Brien/Frank Lovejoy film before and it was excellent... Ida Lupino brought out strong, slightly ambiguous performances in the cast. I l...

Re: Erich von Stroheim is 125 Years Young Today!
Thanks Joe! Judging from the reviews here at the SSO, I suspect Flamarion will be a big hit with me. :D So many classic film directors felt the need to embellish or completely hide their backgrounds - I'm thinking this was almost a pre-requisite for becoming a great director or at least a big presen...

Re: Favourite Time Travel Yarns
Time After Time (1979) with Mary Steenburgen and a very appealing Malcolm MacDowell as H.G. Wells. One of my favorite romances as a teen, along with Somewhere in Time. An interesting thriller/love story combination has Well's traveling forward through time in order to solve one of the 19th century'...

Hey, Kingrat! How to Marry a Millionaire is pure guilty pleasure. A movie I can't pass up when it's on. I saw I Wake Up Screaming fairly recently and fell for it, hook, line and sinker. No couple looks better in black and white than Betty Grable and Victor Mature...they contrast so perfectly that it...

Wow! LOOK what I missed here! Some great great conversation.... from Tinker to Goddess to Maven. A triple play for sure!
I have to read over the illuminating comments again just to wrap my head around it all! Thanks guys for giving me so much to think about.
