Re: Welcome to Martha Crawford Cantarini
Hello, Martha! Thank you so much for joining us here at the Silver Screen Oasis! :-) Your article,"How To Catch Any Horse," is a joy! I've learned from all your film credits that you had worked as a stuntwoman on four films with Eleanor Parker ( Interrupted Melody,1955, The Man With The G...

Re: Welcome to Martha Crawford Cantarini
Hi Martha and welcome to the Silver Screen Oasis. It's nice having you here. Since you worked with and became friends with Eleanor Parker, perhaps you can tell us how she is doing these days? Also are there any stars or directors you worked with that you didn't particularly care for? Thank you kind...

Re: Welcome to Martha Crawford Cantarini
Hi Martha, thanks for stopping by. I really love "Yellow Sky." What was it like working with William Wellman? I remember Richard Widmark said that he found Wellman intimidating. Widmark fell off his horse and Wellman supposedly said "That's the last chance you get," and he never...

Re: Welcome to Martha Crawford Cantarini
Dear Martha, thanks so much for agreeing to answer our questions. Did you ever meet Ben Johnson and if you did, could you please share your impressions and stories you might have? Thank you! I met Ben Johnson on several occasions. Fat Jones was a motion picture livestock contractor and he supplied ...

Re: CLAUDETTE COLBERT
Oh my goodness! Your mom is such a beauty! it's well worth the wait to see her photo! Thank you for posting it, Martha. She makes me think a little of Pat Neal and Virginia Grey as well. It is funny that you should mention Virginia Grey. I was sitting on a horse waiting to work on location for The ...

Re: CLAUDETTE COLBERT
Martha, I am dying to see your mom's picture up there but I can't. I have tried updating everything on my computer but I still can't see the image, it just says IMAGE where the picture ought to be. Would it be too much to ask that you post it again, just to see if maybe I might be able to get a gli...

Re: CLAUDETTE COLBERT
She was stunning. I like Colbert and respect her talent and style enormously, but don't think she was a patch on your Mom in the looks dept. based on this image, Martha. Was the photographer anyone we might know like Clarence Bull or George Hurrell? Was your mother really interested in being an act...

Re: CLAUDETTE COLBERT
This is a picture of my mother when she was tested at Paramount by Frank Borzage. Unfortunately,
she photographed like a glamorous Claudette and, yep, Claudette black listed her in the industry.
She had that much power at the time.

Re: Linda Darnell's Best Performance
Thanks for sharing that very funny account from one of my favorite movies, rerun! Barbara was cute as a button; I thought her brief scenes with Linda were very funny, that they behaved like real sisters do. Linda had a divine peaches-and-cream complexion that I'd die for. This movie (to me) showed ...

Re: Good Horse Racing Movies?
SEABISCUIT is the best that I've seen, and this is coming from someone who has been handicapping thoroughbreds for 40 years. PHAR LAP is another good one, and there's a link between this horse and Seabiscuit. Phar Lap's jockey Billy Elliott gave his saddle to George Woolf, the rider who subbed for ...

Re: Linda Darnell's Best Performance
rerun, I think Linda is exceptional in that film, and I love Paul Douglas. Not to mention Thelma Ritter and Connie Gilchrist and Florence Bates, the holy trinity of supporting actresses! It's a great cast all around. I like Ann Sothern very much too. It really must have been something to be on the ...
