Re: July 2024 Schedule Posted, Eva Marie Saint is SOTM
Milo O'Shea played Durand-Durand in Barbarella (1968). The band took their name from the character.

True. My aunt called my brother Jim-Jim back around the same time (late 60s) until he was about 8, when he announced he was to be called James henceforth.
Didn't even occur to me until you brought up JFK, Jr.

I've always thought that by the name Berry-Berry we are meant to remember that there is a disease called "beriberi."

I'm hoping one of the TBA's for Eva Marie Saint is Garry Marshall's Nothing in Common (1986). All the promotional material featured Tom Hanks and Jackie Gleason, which is understandable I guess, but it had the unfortunate effect of minimizing the fact that Saint was there in a prominent role as well. I love her laugh; it's really memorable and I remember it especially during her conversations with Robert Osborne. You can hear it in this clip from YouTube of a scene with Gleason, which seems to have been recorded from someone's TV because the sound is so harsh, but it's a potent scene between two pros. YouTube won't let the clip embed, but the direct link to YouTube will bring it up. So you can watch it in case the movie isn't one of the TBA's.

Always liked Eva Marie Saint. Recently watched Because of Winn Dixie (2005) and she was one of the actresses in it.

That is one interesting take. If that is the case by the end of the film, his name should be changed to a disease that is more fatal!

And, at the time when that film was made, it was Eva's first theatrical film in 14 years, so yes, it is a shame that the publicity for the film ignored her presence. For Jackie Gleason though, that film was the end of the line. He passed away 11 months after it was released.I Love Melvin wrote: ↑May 27th, 2024, 7:09 am I'm hoping one of the TBA's for Eva Marie Saint is Garry Marshall's Nothing in Common (1986). Fittingly, TCM has added On the Waterfront and A Hatful of Rain to the July 4th tribute to Eva Marie Saint. (We are still waiting for TCM to fill in the rest of the SOTM titles later on in the month.)Detective Jim McLeod wrote: ↑May 24th, 2024, 10:28 am They have a lot of TBA on the Eva Marie Saint days, does that mean they don't know which films they will show yet? I hope one of them is A Hatful Of Rain (1957)
Re: July 2024 Schedule Posted, Eva Marie Saint is SOTM
As part of the Eva Marie Saint tribute, I would like to see The Trip to Bountiful. The very first production of that Horton Foote play took place on NBC-TV in 1953 and starred Lillian Gish, Eva Marie Saint, Eileen Heckert, and John Beal. Later in 1953, it opened on Broadway with Lillian Gish and Eva Marie Saint reprising their roles. Jo Van Fleet replaced Heckert for the Broadway production.

That would be cool if TCM was to show the 1953 T.V. version of play The Trip to Bountiful, but it might be difficult to get a lease of this.Swithin wrote: ↑May 29th, 2024, 5:07 pm As part of the Eva Marie Saint tribute, I would like to see The Trip to Bountiful. I would like to see this too. I saw the 1985 version with Geraldine Page (Oscar winner) and Rebecca DeMornay, which I loved.Swithin wrote: ↑May 29th, 2024, 5:07 pm As part of the Eva Marie Saint tribute, I would like to see The Trip to Bountiful. I know a lot of people don't like it, but I really enjoy THE SANDPIPER.
Elizabeth Taylor is so beautiful in that movie.
