The Naked Street (1955)

Post by Mr. Arkadin »

Has anybody been down this street before? :P We're getting two great films afterwards in Nightfall (1956) and The Girl with Black Stockings (1957), but I've never seen this one. Comments/critiques?

I watched the movie before a little trip I made afterwards. It was fairly pedestrian (sorry for the pun) with a boatload of old cliches and situations BUT the acting of the young Anne Bancroft, Peter Graves, and Farley Granger more then made up for the material. I also got a kick out of seeing Anthony Quinn in his younger days. (well younger then I usually see him)

The whole "mobster who sees his family as a picture of perfection" thing had been done a million times before but I really bought Quinn in that role mainly because of the age difference between he and Bancroft. So while it was maybe a bit rougher and more mature then the old Playhouse 90 type of shows that were on TV at the time it still had that quality in terms of plot and story but the acting was VERY good.
