Hi,

Eleanor Parker is an excellent idea.... Great thinking!!
She could be featured in "Caged" or "Interrupted Melody"...

It'd be great if they showed the rarely-screened Three Secrets as well - for some reason, that film NEVER shows up on TCM.

I hope I get to see Paula again, too! That was so funny how we met! We were both posting to this website at the
same time in the HRH lobby just after midnight! Billy Wilder couldn't have planned it better..

Moira, we want you there! As Queen of the TCM MORLOCKS blogs....

I hope we have a big SSO reunion!

Hi SSA,

Yes, we will meet as I have Lynn to guide me around and show me the ropes!!!
I have read most of your reports here and on TCM board, so I have a fair idea what to expect and will look forward to seeing as many of you Oasis's as possible.

Since we are Oasisees, do we have to dress like Rudolph Valentino and Vilma Banky???

Hi Nancy,

Wow, that would be nice - you as Pola Negri... if you come, I'll even let you wear the ruby ring she gave me that once was hers...
It's one of the first things I noticed about her when we first met in 1946 (I was 4 )...
She told me that "The Prince gave it to me many years ago; and since I paid for it, he was happy to give it to me!!".... "He was a pauper!!", she laughed...
I didn't know what she was talking about; but years later learned that one of her husbands had given it to her, but she had had to pay the bill!!!
Many more years later, just before she died, she gave it to me...

What an interesting woman she must have been. I think, Larry, Alison, Judith and I could sit up all night drinking a good wine and listening to your stories of old Hollywood stars, instead of attending some of the movies....

Now where did I put that black Maybelline eye pencil?

I ordered my pass too.

It would be fun to have a Silver Screen Oasis meet-up at the TCM fest but I don't know if there will be time... we'll all be so busy going to movies, panel discussions, etc.!

King,
I, too, am looking forward to seeing the "gang' at the Festival next Spring.

I think we need to plan another "In-N-Out Burger" gathering for that Thursday afternoon before all the festivities start. Kyle has indicated that he will be there this time.

Looking forward to seeing you and hanging out at the movies!

The latest announcement from TCM re the festival. Mickey Rooney!

TCM Classic Film Festival to Spotlight Disney's Musical Legacy

The 2011 TCM Classic Film Festival--in collaboration with D23, The Official Disney Fan Club--is thrilled to announce a multi-faceted celebration of the studio's history of bringing music and film together.

Programming will include:
FANTASIA (1940) Recently restored edition
This groundbreaking animated anthology, one of Walt Disney's most astonishing achievements, combined classical music with animated imagery in an unforgettable manner. A commercial failure when it was first released, the film has since become a cultural treasure.

Silly Symphonies -- Curated by Leonard Maltin
Film historian Leonard Maltin will curate and introduce a selection of the memorable Silly Symphonies shorts. Many of the featured shorts, rarely seen today in theatres, broke new ground in animation techniques.

A Special Tribute to Disney Live-Action Musicals
After establishing its artistic reputation through animated films, the Disney studio moved into the realm of live-action musical features. The TCM Classic Film Festival's Disney celebration will include a special tribute to the Disney Live-Action Musicals.

Laugh-O-grams -- Newly discovered and restored shorts, presented in collaboration with the Walt Disney Family Museum and the Museum of Modern Art
Before he started the studio that would bear his name, Disney started the Laugh-O-grams studio in Kansas City, Missouri. This collection of recently discovered and restored works heralds the earliest days of Walt Disney's career.

Other recently announced festival presentations include:

Screen legend Mickey Rooney will be in attendance for a presentation of the musical GIRL CRAZY (1943), also starring Judy Garland and Guy Kibbee

Unseen for decades, the all-star aerial drama NIGHT FLIGHT (1933), starring John Barrymore, Clark Gable and Helen Hayes

A new print of DODSWORTH (1936) in celebration of the 75th anniversary of William Wyler's underappreciated classic

Stay tuned for more exciting screening and special guest announcements in the coming weeks!

Hi,

Sadly, my suggestion to invite Anne Francis to the Festival must now be cancelled....

Miss Francis died yesterday at the age of 80 from lung and pancreatic cancer...
It would have been such a thrill to all of us to have met her and I'm sure she would have been honoured and happy to have been able to attend, if she'd been asked and been able!!

What a sad loss of a beautiful lady to the entertainment world...

R.I.P. Miss Francis

Hi,

Having just written this last post about the surprising death of Anne Francis, I do strongly advise and suggest that the Festival organizers invite Joan Fontaine, Louis Jourdan, Eleanor Parker, Janis Paige and John Gavin to attend.
I do hope that all of them are in good health and would be honoured to come....
