Here we go... they've just announced the dates for the 2011 TCM Classic Film Festival. They've moved it up two weeks, to the middle of April -- April 12-15, 2012.
Which means... I can't go. *WAAAAAHHHHH* *BAWWWWLLLL*
The middle of April is a HUGELY busy time at my job and in fact we have a very important event taking place on Monday, April 16, which I am responsible for organizing. There's just no way I can get away (including travel time) that weekend. WHY TCM WHY HAVE YOU DONE THIS TO ME? End of April -- no problem. Middle of April-- impossible.
Oh no! That's bad news! I'm in the opposite kind of situation: I never know for sure until near the scheduled dates if I'll be needed at work. In 2010 I didn't know until leaving work on Wednesday that I could head for LA on Thursday morning.
Sure hope lots of SSO movie buddies can make it to Hollywood this April.
Thanks for posting this news, Paula, which can be seen as it evolves on the TCM Festival site, linked below. Passes go on sale in November! I wish you could go too, girl.:
I also will not be able to attend the Festival.
I leave for my annual London visits on April 12th. Who tampered with the end of April/beginning of May agenda? Stupid decision!!
I fired off an e-mail to TCM asking for an explanation about the change in dates. We'll see if they actually bother to answer.
Then I wallowed in self-pity by indulging in ice cream (Ben and Jerry's Phish Food) and buying some stuff on ebay.
I'd rather go to the TCM fest, though. *grumble*
Apologies... I'm giving myself a few days for a pity party, then I promise to be my usual cheerful self. This is a real blow so I'll just need a little time to recover. I was SOOOO looking forward to TCM fest no. 3. Hubby said I should go on the cruise instead (I have the world's nicest hubby) so I went to the cruise webpage and of course it's sold out with a wait list.
I'll be in another funk come mid-April though. :(
P.S. I do realize that the TCM fest problem of one little person doesn't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world. The whining won't go on too long.
I suspect that it the reason it was moved up two weeks is because one of the venues (the Chinese, Egyptian, Roosevelt) had a conflict in booking with the last week of April, 2012.
Or perhaps Robert O did.
Just a thought.

I always wanted to go but again I’m not. All my life I wanted to go to California, it’s been a quest like Ratso Rizzo’s quest for Florida. Hopefully one day they bring the festival to the East…

And I sure hope that you never have to take the bus (or walk, God forbid) all the way to California like Ratso did to Florida. Wouldn't it be great if TCM could give away a trip for two to the festival? Just a thought.
I told my boss I was depressed today because I couldn't go to the festival because of the schedule change.
He looked at me as if I was silly and said of course I should go. I said, "WHAATTT?" He said they were all grown-ups there and as long as I had everything arranged in advance, I could go and they could handle the event on April 16.
Woah!
I am still thinking about whether it would be wise to do this. I actually probably could get back in time to go to the event though some of the other folks here might have to be responsible for anything last minute. Hmmmmm.
Don't I have a great boss? :) Still have to think about this though.
LOL, Cinemaven! (You're not a cyber-stranger! We met in person at last year's festival! Several times!) :)
Actually I booked my reservations immediately and a good thing too as the Roosevelt was almost sold out. As it was, I had to get an expensive room. :(((( I better start saving now.
I then called the Hollywood Renaissance Hotel across the street to see if they had anything cheaper but they were already sold out. Yikes!
I can always cancel if I decide I really can't go.
My boss is a wonderful author (and wonderful person) whose name is Jim Grimsley. You can google him. :) One of his books was recently featured in the NPR segment "You Must Read This" and sales on Amazon jumped. ;) He almost made it into the top 100. :)

Tickets are on sale today, and they seem to be going fast. SueSue posted on the TCM boards that the Spotlight Passes (most expensive) have already sold out.
Hope to see as many of you as possible in Hollywood next April!
