TCM announces it is sunsetting the TCM Forums

Post by Masha »

https://forums.tcm.com/topic/271979-tcm ... mber-2022/

The TCM Moderator announced today that the forums are being closed. November 30, 2022 will be the last day to post and all data will be erased on February 15, 2023.

I am sad about this but I must admit that there has been ample warning since the change of ownership.

I must wonder how long it will be before all of TCM disappears because it does not fit the new corporate vision.

Took me awhile to find my old password!
I hope others (but not all) migrate over here-we had a really great group discussing films.
We alerted each other when something different was broadcast & we could all watch & discuss the movie together-sometimes arguments ensued!

Ha, same here. It has been years since I logged in here. I really enjoyed the Silver Screen Oasis community and I hope we can make it active again!

(This is _Broadway_ from the TCM forums, by the way. Maybe I can update my username)

It made me very happy to see replies! I had feared that none would even try.

TikiSoo - I am elated to see you here! I had forgotten that you are a member.I hope this is a token of many other wonderful things.

norfious - I am sorry to say that we had little or no interaction on the TCM boards. I hope we will get along like gangbusters here. Note: I would hesitate updating your username. It was necessary some years ago that I re-register. Some factor in that process caused all of my old posts to disappear. Note 2: I was/am SansFin on the TCM forums.

Let us all hope that we see many more old friends and even some new faces in this forum now!

I am glad to see you here, SansFin and TikiSoo!

Yes, I unfortunately stayed mostly on the Games/Trivia forums on the TCM forums, as I have not had as much energy to post actually compelling/interesting commentary in the meatier threads as of late. I am eager to have more meaningful conversations with fellow film fans, though.

Thank you for the warning about name-changing. I think I will just put my TCM name in my signature to avoid issues with re-registering. It is certainly eye-opening seeing just how long ago I registered on this site. Here I thought it was merely a few years in the past. How time flies!

I hope that more folks from TCM will make it over here! :)

I managed to register, make my profile and post here. I am sad that my beautiful "I Just Watched" thread on the TCM forum will die a sad death next month. 7 years, 33k replies, 1.2mil views, all gone.

Maybe if we can get all the "good" posters over here and revitalize this community, we can leave all the riff-raff behind.

For newcomers visiting we have made the registration easier for you to join by removing the verication. Give a look around. Have fun.

Thanks for making me aware of this alternative. I'm more of a reader than a writer. And I have noticed that some posters who I've enjoyed reading on the TCM forum are either here or may be heading this way.

Of course, now I'm just wondering whether I fall into the riff-raff category! :D

I'm fresh (having just registered here) from the TCM message boards and it's good to see a few other TCMers here as well. I wish that TCM had shown more respect for the thousands of threads written on its website over the years and wanted to preserve them somehow. Sadly that does not appear to be the case.

In any event, it's good to be on Silver Screen Oasis, though it may take a while for me to find my way around here. It's comforting to see a photo image of Robert Osborrne here.

Hello. I attempted to register specifically under the character name “RobertConway” but it told me that was not allowed. It doesn’t matter much either way because I like the name I chose.
