Filmlover's Faux Now Playing Covers

Post by moira finnie »

One of our members Filmlover is a devoted participant in the regular TCM Programming Challenge over on the TCM message boards. He has kindly allowed us to see all the Now Playing Covers that he has created as an imaginative complement to the contest over time. Peter, who was one of the TCM Guest Programmers last year on TCM was profiled here and has been a member of both this site and TCM for the better part of the last decade--made all the better by his presence. You can read more about him here.

Please do not to reproduce or copy the covers. The Now Playing magazine is owned by TCM and the covers Filmlover has created are just for fun, tied into the Challenges. Thank you, Peter!!

The first batch of covers related to this round of the contest is below and more are to follow. (I think my favorite is the picture of Ward Bond. What's yours?):

Here are another slew of terrific images that Peter created for past challenges. Please do not to reproduce or copy the covers. The Now Playing magazine is owned by TCM and the covers Filmlover has created are just for fun, tied into the Challenges. Again, thank you, Peter!!

Love that Robert Preston cover!

Peter had one experience in creating his pretend Now Playing covers that some thought indicated that someone at TCM might be appreciating his ideas too.

The first image of Ida Lupino was created by Peter for one of the competitions. When a very similar cover in sepia below "came out a few months after the one I did," Peter says, "People commented that the real one was lifted from mine, but I still believe it was a coincidence, [though] it is something I am very happy with."

See what you think:

Looking at them, I think one or two were works-in-progress, and I went with a different cover. Also, for anyone who is interested, my 10 personal favorites were:

Ellis Island (that was for one of my schedules)
The Cyd Charisse fold-out cover (had fun with that one)
The 3D cover
Hayley Mills
Joel McCrea
Greer Garson
Glynis Johns
Edith Head
Joan Blondell
Luise Rainer (that was one of my schedules, and I am very happy that TCM did a tribute to her on her birthday and that she will be at the TCM festival).
