Not all classics are shown on TCM and once in a while on may show up worth noting. I though we could do that here. I'll start.

Sept 16 at 6:10am ET "Man Hunt" on Action Max. This is the 1941 drama starring Walter Pidgeon as a man who tries to assassinate Hitler. Also an additional showing on Sept. 23rd.

MikeBSG also posted a showing of "The Tall T" tonight Sept 15th on Encore Westerns at 9:30ET.

Not having Action Max or recall seeing Man Hunt, I can't remark on that. I do however, know The Tall T. This is the one we've discussed where lovely Maureen O'Sullivan appears so dowdy and Old Maid-ish. But the movie also features Richard Boone (always a plus), and stars Randolph Scott. This is one of those 'silent hero' types of role that Scott played so very well. With very little dialog he manages to let the audience know that no matter how bad it may seem, just give him a couple of minutes and he will take control. It's definitely worth watching as long as you remember to record the final episode of The Closer if you're a fan.

Thanks for the info. I've wanted to see this film for awhile now. I don't have this channel, but I think my brother does. 8)

Thanks Chris, this is a great idea for a "heads up" on the movies we might otherwise miss.

FMC has been running two versions of Les Miserables on their channel recently. The next scheduled times for the 1935 version with Fredric March as Valjean and Charles Laughton as Javert is on Tue, Sept. 23, 8:00 AM EDT. Laughton is outstanding and March is quite moving. Cedric Hardwicke is fine as a tough-minded but compassionate Bishop.

The 1952 version of Les Miserables with Michael Rennie as Valjean and Robert Newton as Javert is scheduled for Wed, Sep 24, 8:00 AM on FMC. Edmund Gwenn plays the Bishop with great warmth in this version. Btw, several other Rennie films are also scheduled:

AMC Wed, Sept. 24, 5:15 AM EDT The Lost World (1960), which is a rather lackluster affair compared to the great silent. Plus, one is subjected to viewing Claude Rains in a red wig and a role unworthy of his talent. But, if you're in the mood for cheesiness, maybe it's enjoyable...

On AMC on Wed, Sept. 24, 12:15 PM EDT, what may be Rennie's best role in Robert Wise's The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) is on display. Still great, after repeated viewings.

FMC has Soldier of Fortune (1955) on tap on Fri., Sept. 26, 12:00 PM. This Ernest K. Gann story is set in Hong Kong and Communist China with Rennie in a relatively small role with Clark Gable (who seems less than healthy here), Susan Hayward (doing her feisty spitfire number) and Bat Masterso--er, I mean Gene Barry as Susan's lunkheaded husband.

Tales of Manhattan the extended version with W.C. Fields is showing on FMC September 22 at 8am, but the schedule doesn't say what time zone.

I just checked my schedule for tomorrow, I'm in CDT zone, and it starts at 7 am here, so the FMC schedule is as of EDT.

I missed most of them but there were some Paul Newman films scattered throughout this week but the only remaining one seems to be "The Verdict" Saturday at 5:10am ET on Cinemax.

I don't know if this movie is a "classic" exactly, but if you are curious about Linda Darnell's early appearances on film, tomorrow morning 10/28/08 at 9am EDT on the Fox Movie Channel, Star Dust (1940), a highly fictionalized look at a young girl's adventures in a Hollywood populated with nice geezers such as William Gargan, Donald Meek, Charlotte Greenwood & Roland Young and appealing youngsters such as John Payne, Mary Beth Hughes (betcha she plays a little vixen), & George Montgomery.

This was made just after Darnell completed the mechanical Day Wife (1940) with Tyrone Power, a dreadful movie that demonstrated that she was a gorgeous little girl playing grown up and hopelessly in over her head, (that script certainly didn't help either).

Darnell was so lovely and became such a good actress as she matured, it just might be worth a look.

This is a bit late but there are a couple of movies you might keep an eye out for repeat showings. These have been shown on HBO.

Hail The Conquering Hero has been on HBO Comedy.
Wee Willie Winkie. John Ford directs little Shirley Temple. This was on HBO SE this morning and could show up again.

Just in case you wanted to know.....

Moira, coincidental to your Oct. 27 post above, I saw Star Dust last Monday on Fox, and thoroughly enjoyed it. All the youngsters, playing Hollywood hopefuls, were excellent, and Roland Young's laid-back Continental-ness was a nice counterpoint. I think it was a draw in terms of adorableness between Linda Darnell and John Payne -- they were both so cute, and so gorgeous.

After Star Dust, Fox ran Chad Hanna, which I enjoyed even more than the first time I saw it, last year. What a lovely movie, and Darnell is so charming in it, as is the young and beautiful Henry Fonda. This one has been out of circulation for so long, and it is one I think all of us here would appreciate.

Now I have to hunker down some night and get around to watching the recording I made of Star Dust. I could kick myself for not catching Chad Hanna, which I recall from past viewing as beguiling as you say, not only because it features Fonda and Darnell at their most winsome, but because it also gives Dorothy Lamour one of her few meaty, non-sarong roles, strutting her stuff as a tawdry circus gal. I was totally won over by Lamour in Johnny Apollo (newly out on dvd, btw), and would love to see more of her in non-Road & South Sea movies.
