Alba schools Fox’s O’Reilly in WW II history

The Scoop

Jessica Alba is setting the record straight: Sweden was neutral during World War II.

Alba and Fox TV show host Bill O’Reilly traded punches last week after the presidential inauguration. After Alba told a Fox reporter that O’Reilly was “kind of an a-hole;” he retaliated by calling her a “pinhead” for telling a reporter to “be Sweden about it,” assuming she meant Switzerland.

“I want to clear some things up that have been bothering me lately,” Alba blogged on MySpace Celebrity. “Last week, Mr. Bill O'Reilly and some really classy sites (i.e.TMZ) insinuated I was dumb by claiming Sweden was a neutral country. I appreciate the fact that he is a news anchor and that gossip sites are inundated with intelligent reporting, but seriously people... it's so sad to me that you think the only neutral country during WWII was Switzerland.”

Although Switzerland is more frequently cited as an example of neutrality, Sweden did indeed follow a policy of neutrality during World War II. History point to Alba.

Yes, kudos.

We sold iron to the Germans and let them send troops through our land. That probably means our neutrality wouldn't count in Bill's eyes anyway. He's a man who likes to call people "pinheads" on national television. I've read other sentiments that amount to the same thing. We had a troubling moral standpoint during WWII, nothing to be proud of. But we weren't allied to the Germans. It seems we mostly acted out of fear. Göring did say Sweden as a sh*tty little country that could easily be destroyed, and he was probably right.

BTW, I've seen Bill shout down his guests in interviews. Is he actually a journalist?

Dear Synnove,

In a word, "NO!"

Sadly, Bill O'Reilly is a "journalist" in the same media-spin manner that George W. Bush was a career politician.

Hi,

Sweden was neutral in both WWI & WWII; but since Germany invaded Denmark and then Norway and occupied both, Sweden was pretty much surrounded by Nazis. It had no choice but to 'co-operate' with Germany.

Much the same can be said for Switzerland also, which has a large German speaking population in the North.
It also was surrounded by Nazis - Germany, Austria, Italy and France.

But, good for Jessica Alba - it's always wonderful when a bully is confronted by a girl.....
