I think one of the reasons The Sweeney was never shown in America on tv or on the big screen, as there were two good movie spin-offs was because of the level of violence shown. It was made in the mid 70s and if i remember right cop shows in the U.S at the time were being forced to crack down on it's violent content. I think Starsky And Hutch was a show that possibly suffered as a result

Whatever happened to Lesley Ann Down?
She was exquisite, and seemed poised for a major career after her breakthrough small screen role here in Upstairs, Downstairs and later in the movies opposite Sean Connery in The Great Train Robbery (1979). Thanks!

Good morning,
I have to take exception to the statement that Starsky and Hutch suffered as a result of the crackdown on television violence in the 1970's. Starsky and Hutch suffered primarily from having been produced and featuring bad scripts and terrible acting. The car they drove was the most interesting thing about the show!

LOL. Some of us just watched it for a glimpse of the alleged brooding magnetism of Paul Michael Glaser--not to mention the cogent, realistic scripts. That show always seemed to be interchangeable with Baretta to me. Except they didn't have the bird. Well they did have Huggy Bear (poor Antonio Vargas).

That show always seemed to be interchangeable with Baretta to me.
Say it ain't so, Moira. I know that Starsky & Hutch had that dreamy David Soul, he of the mega-hit, but Robert Blake...ROBERT BLAKE! Oh, and Tom Ewell! Not to mention a who's who of guest appearances, from Burt Young to Strother Martin...and Timothy Carey!!!
Plus, Mr. Blake, I believe, was the only person in history who could always find a legit parking spot in front of the NYC building he was going into.
Keep your eye on the sparrow, Darlin'. And, dat's a fact. (What's next? Brother Telly and who luvs ya, Baby?)
