Oh, Moira thanks...I didn't think I'd get into the wedding stuff, but I'm hooked! Those Corbis photos are wonderful, there's one of a little girl in a flag dress surrounded by flags that's adorable, and another of Harry that captures his giggly moment at the wedding.

Queen Margarethe of Sweden looked great both days, and there was a royal personage in a grey silk saari from the Mandarin party who looked really elegant as well.

I forgot two photos from my best dressed:

Pippa and royal cousins:

Caroline and Camilla:

Check out Princess Beatrice at the party last night:

And this photo of the Queen made me gasp. Isn't she stunning?

Thank you for the pictures. Of the two royal sisters, Beatrice was better dressed than Eugenie, I love her evening dress. Her father Andrew has suffered some very bad press lately, the Royal family are number one targets for our tabloids. The more I look at footage (has anyone seen Kate's choice for the evening do? she's so elegant) I feel more happiness, news has a tendency to doom and gloom and doesn't focus on what is great about life, it's only events like these that bring what is wonderful about humanity, our ability to choose and love those we want to and to revel in a love story, this time it's in the news rather than having to delve into movies.

As I watched it with Libby and later with Joe to I remembered that 30 years ago I spent Diana and Charles's wedding day at home with my parents and grandmother and I hope and I'm sure that Libby and Joe will remember in years to come that they watched their King's wedding with her grandparents and family and feel a sense of history.

Stuart, I hope you've enjoyed the highlights, I'm sorry you had to work, it was a good day which I'm sure you've gathered from the highlights. Don't they make a lovely couple.

Libby, my Elizabeth, proud that she carries the Queen's name, although our Queen was only partly the reason for her name (despite the jubilee and the Queen mother's death in the same year) she loves her name, is very much the royalist her mother is. Catherine was the name planned for our baby that wasn't to be, I told Libby that today and she was very approving, in fact her child is going to be Victoria Catherine, my daughter is very traditional, watch this space....

I woke up at exactly 3:59a.m. this morning, here in Chicago, and guess what was on all four network stations on TV. So I watched, which was kind of like being a guest at a large wedding where you are the only co-worker of one of the couples' and everyone else is related, so you have nobody to talk to except your date. You guys talk about Eugenie and Beatrice, and I have no idea who they are. I assume they are somebody special's daughters, but who. I don't really care, it's just a rhetorical 'who'. The only one I know is Camilla and the immediate royal family and that includes just the Queen, Prince Phillip, Prince Charles, and his two sons. I miss Fergie but realize she is still considered the bad girl.

I say it now as I always have and never wavered, Diana's gown was utterly ridiculous looking, those sleeves were like extra pieces of material that the designer just pinned around the armhole, and it was at least one size, if not two sizess too large. She looked like a flower girl whose dress was made too big, and there was no time to fix it. I liked Catherines' gown, probably because it was so close to the design of Princess Grace's, of Monaco, although I believe that helped since Catherine acted very much like Grace - PURE ELEGANCE. Watching the clips from the Diana/Charles wedding, I see how heartbreakingly young Diana was. She wanted to be happy and smile, but that was not allowed giving good reason for Catherine and William to have waited until they were both very sure. Perhaps they can accept their duties more seriously than may otherwise be. I was never a fan of Diana, mainly because of the last few presidents we've had and what they've done to us, so the foibles of the royal family are not uppermost in my mind, but I do feel for her as an unhappy, childlike bride, which I did not see back in the day, but only now since I myself, have aged to recognize the facial expressions.

That's the whole point of search engines, Anne - with them, you can look up anything imagineable on line - from the lyrics of Italian love ballads to the middle name of the third grand duke of Austria, to the history of Caribbean fruit juice in the Harding administration, to the capitol of Bhutan, or the passenger manifest for the Mayflower, or the orbital rotation of Venus.
Yahoo, Google, Askme, Jeeves, Dogpile, Momma - just pick one & go!

Anymore, most people would probably think you were referring to the female vocalist in the Black Eyed Peas.

Thank you Jack Favell. :P

Klondike:

Of course I know what a search engine is, and I use them often, but before making fun of me, the following is the next line in my post: "I don't really care, it's just a rhetorical 'who'. Broadly, rhetorical 'who' means the question doesn't really require an answer, in fact no more than I care who the Black Eyed Peas are, other than something I boil with onions and bacon, and serve with cornbread. BTW, I capitalized because you did accepting them as a proper noun, which I assume you meant, not a vegetable.

I worked very hard at keeping my post from sounding snooty and uncaring about today's events. I thoroughly enjoyed the pomp and circumstance, the clothing (including the military uniforms), and the little flower girls, but there were a couple of things that were strange to me, and I did not want to sound like I was making fun of any of it. I just wanted to give my opinion, I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings about your original next door neighbors.

Beatrice looks much better without the awful hat. One could make the argument, and quite successfully, she looked better later than earlier.

I agree, Chris. I think she looked quite good in the evening gown.

You're welcome to your opinion Anne, I'm glad you managed to see the wedding although at 4am I'm not sure I'd be as keen.

Well I've poured over today's papers, lots of pictures highlighting the best and worst dressed, opinion divided as to Princess Anne's outfit, it was felt that she should have been allowed to wear regimental colours, Beatrice and Eugenie are taking the biggest beating for getting it wrong, in Beatrice's defence it was only the hat but I didn't like anything about Eugenie's emsemble, I think it made her look bigger than she is. Kate had done her own makeup, after taking lessons in wedding makeup, I thought it was overdone for the TV cameras but on balance in the stills it looks great. Kate has won the Daily Mail's heart, long may it continue, yet one hack pointed out that both the Queen and Diana managed to produce an heir within a year of their wedding, so no pressure there then.

Lots of comments about Harry hair and wit, Pippa's fabulous clothes, figure and rear, the charm of the little bridesmaids, the poise of the Middleton's and the fact the Sepncer's were relegated to Kate's side of the church behind the Middleton's. A nice touch about Kate's earrings, designed by her mother to incorporate the family crest of three acorns, representing the three children, Pippa got some identical ones and James got a signet ring, from Mr and Mrs Middleton. The Middleton's have insisited on paying towards the wedding, some not disclosed, it wasn't necessary but a matter of pride, I think it's every parent's dream to buy the wedding dress and bridesmaids outfits.

The more I see Kate's dress the more I love it, whereas everyone thought Diana's dress was a disaster, everyone seems to love Kate's dress. I'm looking forward to seeing what she wears in future.

Kate and William

I set my DVR to record this historical event. I spent a better part of two days reading & re-reading this entire thread and having just seen the Royal Wedding ... I think that Kate and William will be better loved than Diana and Charles. Kate seems to grasp the Royalty (of which it is a good thing) concept better than Diana. Kate has better fashion sense, better poise, and more situated on becoming a Princess than Diana ever will. I know Diana was loved by all; I admired her more than Charles. I have a little disrespect for Prince Charles for personal reasons of which I rather to be kept private. Diana work as a humanitarian made me respect her more than Charles - in which I have great respect for.

Back to Kate and William ... at this stage ... they are more intelligent than Diana and Charles were. I had a great interest in Kate and she seems has what its takes to be a Princess and being careful like she is - she knows exactly what to do here and I hope someday; Charles steps away (forsake the crown) and let William to be next King of England. I may or may not be in the majority here ... but I feel that William is more level headed than Charles ever will be.

So, in closing ... I wish this happy couple to carry out the legend ency of Princess Diana ... and be greater than their parents ever will.

To All that contributed pictures on this thread ... I enjoyed them immensely :!:

I was wondering where the Spencers were...at one point (coming in on the wedding ceremony halfway through), I actually thought that Elton John was Diana's brother. :D

As for Fergie not being invited, though I like her a lot, she broke a rule that I would find unforgivable were I the Queen, that of breaching the privacy of the royal family by trying to sell photos and personal remembrances of Andrew. I think Fergie is probably happier away from the family anyway.

I still like Diana's gown. I found a blog that talks about royals and this post is more about the wedding:

And here is a listing of the royal wedding guests and how they are related:

Jacks, Diana's wedding dress is on display here in KC right now.

http://www.kmbc.com/news/27077604/detail.html

It is a traveling exhibit, don't know where it's headed next. Oprah (Big O   ) tried to get it for the wedding day this week to display on her show (network? don't like her much so don't follow her) but the Union Station here refused.

What great articles, I didn't know that about Diana's earrings. I know just about everything has been said by the media by now but it's such a happy story I can't resist.

William is going back to work, he's only taken the weekend off for his honeymoon for now and won't reveal whereabouts in the country he's whisking Kate too, hot favorite is Balmoral and will only reveal that his honeymoon will be somewhere hot. He feels the media hounded his mother to her death and does not want that kind of intrusion for his wife. He's a sensible guy, the media did get too intrusive when Diana's marriage was breaking up and I know they both turned to the media, I think it's better if something is kept in reserve, a bit of mystery so to speak.

Kingme, I'm glad you enjoyed the wedding. I'd be very surprised if Charles didn't succeed the Queen, I can't see William wanting to usurp his father and the royal family are very traditional, there would have to be a huge swell of public opinion against Charles and I'm pretty sure that wouldn't happen. People are too apathetic. I think Charles succeeding would be the only thing to do, you aren't alone in that thought though.

Stuart, my husband read that Tony Blair wasn't invited because William doesn't like him, something he wrote in his autobiography about the royals has made him terrifically unpopular with William. I'm not sure as to Gordon Brown, he was one of the administrators of Diana's fund which raised a huge amount of money to support her good causes and then spent a fortune fighting the Franklin mint. I wonder why he wasn't invited. I'd forgotten too that John Major was appointed legal guardian for the Princes either at the time of the royal couples divorce or the Princess's death.

I wondered if Willian had a probelm with Tony Blair. He may not offically be entitled to air his political views, but I wonder as a serving RAF pilot if William feels Blair wrongly led the Country into the Irag war

I know the Monarchy is by traditionally a Tory party, but have the impression The Queen herself, Winston Churchill excepted, has got on better with Labour PMs rather than Tory ones. It looks like she got on better with Harold Wilson than Edward Heath and likewise prefered Blair to Margaret Thatcher. I got the impression from leftie MP Dennis Skinner that the young Queen wasn't interested in the working classes, but the older Elizabeth was.

Tony Blair did a lot for the Royals in the aftermath of Diana's death

I don't think they should have to invite every person who ever had a hand in government to their wedding anyway, it's their day. And if someone slagged them off in print then they shouldn't have to put up with them at all.

Sorry for sticking with the foolish dress up talk. I am still trying to figure out who the young woman was who showed up to the wedding in pink or peach roses - they were all up and down the bodice of her suit and up underneath her side tilted hat, piled on top of her head like a cake. It sounds awful, but I really liked the way it looked on this dark haired young woman.
