MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES
Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES
I felt a bit sorry for Tommy also. You'd be surly too if you had to live
in the same house as his mother. He was under a lot of pressure
with Mama Bitchnmoan plus a new baby. So I cut him a bit of a break.
Karen Steele. Va va voom. She was quite a looker. I've seen her in
other roles. Very attractive to say the least.

I don't like the dismissive way Tommy treats Marty. Yes, Tommy is under pressure but that's no excuse for being so rude. It's very adolescent.
I had only seen Karen Steele in some Randolph Scott western and wasn't impressed; that is, until I saw her in MARTY. Very kitchen-sink natural, as opposed to her sexy image.

Well, he's relatively young. I'm sure he'll grow into being a daddy and husband.
I wasn't really referring to her acting, but to her physical appearance. Very
attractive with a nice figure. I think she was in at least one episode of Perry
Mason.
Karen Steele or Ann Morgan Guilbert. Boy, that's a tough one.

Was the scene with Betsy Blair's character and her parents included in the version of MARTY that TCM aired recently?
That scene is cut on some prints.

Yep, Holden, that scene was included and has been at least for the times that TCM has aired MARTY.
It was always cut decades ago whenever I'd watch this movie on television back in the day and can almost understand why -- Clara's monologue to her parents seems awkward, out of place -- in fact doesn't even "sound" like Paddy at all.

Karen Steele was a stunning woman she was in 3 Budd Boetticher films (She was involved with him at the time ) with Randolph Scott who did his best ones with him, they did many westerns together. All the westerns are now considered classics now. The first time I have seen Karen Steele in Ride Lonesome I could not believe such a beautiful woman quite unknown existed in a western in the late 50's.To appreciate her beauty you must see her in colorlike in the 3 Boetticher films .Too bad I do not know how to post a photo here otherwise a nice color shot would give her justice. The Scott Boetticher films were revaluated in the last decade.

Not Cary Grant.

Unfortunately, the best pics of Karen Steele from Ride Lonesome are in b&w,
though it was a color film.

I wonder if Clara's talk with her parents was possibly written by someone other than Chayefsky?Bronxgirl48 wrote: ↑May 26th, 2024, 12:42 pm Yep, Holden, that scene was included and has been at least for the times that TCM has aired MARTY.

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES
The original TV show was only an hour, so the script had to be padded to feature length. I don't believe Clara's parents were in the original TV version at all. I've only seen it once, many years ago.
My favorite incidental scene in the film is the conversation between the two ladies sitting at the bar gossiping. Has nothing to do with the plot, but it's a nice slice of life scene.
Hopefully old world women today don't have that mindset that life is over in your 50s if your husband passes away. The mother/aunt dialogue regarding that is quite depressing, even more so when one reaches that age!

Andree, please feel free here to talk about your favorite attractive actresses! Sorry I gave the impression otherwise. (didn't mean to)

That's what I always thought.

Speaking of Perry Mason, we just saw The Case of the Provocative Protege, with noir gal Virginia Field in a prominent role.
