I mentioned Barbara Baxley a while back. She wasn't a big star or a glamorpuss,
but I always thought she was as cute as a button and with those big Bette
Davis eyes.
Maybe they wouldn't let Cary be the murderer a la Suspicion.
Yes, Andree, I could see men falling for Baxley. Warren Beatty was horrendous to women in ALL FALL DOWN but I was always particularly upset at his treatment of Barbara.

I'll bet Cary would have been content to just be in the background on Perry Mason -- maybe as a suave uncle or guardian of the accused young man or woman. Or perhaps mopping the floor in overalls as a janitor, lol. They probably wouldn't even list him in the credits, just let audiences gasp in surprise. "Hey, Mabel, did you see Cary Grant with a mop?"

Barbara Baxley had a rich stage career, including creating the role of Esmerelda in Tennessee Williams' Camino Real. She also played Isabel in the original production of Williams' Period of Adjustment, which Jane Fonda played on film.
Baxley had an important supporting role in the original production of She Loves Me, in which she sang many songs, including this one:

Barbara Baxley had small, uncredited but very memorable role as the patronizing nurse for Raymond Massey's character in EAST OF EDEN after he had a stroke.

I've read that Beatty was quite a pain to work with, at least early in his career.
I haven't watched or thought of Dudley Do-Right in years. Boris and Natasha,

A Cary Grant PM cameo would have been funny. Maybe playing a punctilious
servant bringing a glass of milk up to the 90 year old crotchety matriarch who
passes away over night. Hmmm.

I've read a bit about her stage career. Of course I know her through a few movie roles
and TV shows. She was on AHP a number of times.
I likely spent too much time in the local library, but all's well that ends well.
Barbara was also good as the "Queen Mother" of country music in Nashville (1975) and had a particularly memorable moment sharing her tipsy thoughts on the passing of RFK.

Today's Curses Tuesday is my jam. The Wheeler & Woolsey MUMMY'S BOYS is a real stinkeroo, their worst. DEATH CURSE OF TARTU -- don't even bother, unless you're a John Ford completist. Yes, you read that correctly. Let me explain. The following will make it seem as if I am being immodest/tooting my own horn but I must continue: I also belong to a certain classic horror message board and, upon my very first viewing of TARTU, posted a tentative comparison between a character's chase scenes in the latter and Henry Fonda's in DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK. Imagine my shock and surprise to learn from another party at that particular board that DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK was one of the TARTU director's favorite movies!
