Hi Joe,

Fabulous picture of Constance Ford, a fine actress in all her films, but one who was not always given the glamour treatment.
It takes you to find the beauty and charm in the great character people.
As always - thank you...

It was my pleasure, Larry. Constance Ford was always a favorite. Maybe not a glamour queen but one hell of an actress.

Nice image, PT. I bow to those four stars.

Birthday gal Leslie Caron's affair with Warren Beatty broke up her marriage to Peter Hall. A London court later named Beatty a co-respondent in the divorce and ordered him to pay “the costs of the case.”

Great picture of Director Laughton in action. Wish he'd done some more directing; the eerie Hunter certainly shows he had a flair for it.

Wonder if anyone knows how he came to direct that picture and/or why he never did another.

Laughton and Paul Gregory had formed a production team for the stage. Gregory got a copy of a soon-to-be published book, The Night of the Hunter (David Grubb), and showed it to Laughton, who liked it. Laughton had wanted to direct a film, so he Jackson got a distribution deal with United Artists.

The previews were so-so, causing United Artists to promote another Mitchum movie, NOT AS A STRANGER, more heavily. The reviews ranged from "too arty" to "not sinister enough" to criticism of Mitchum's performance. Laughton was distraught over the box office failure, abandoned the project he was working on (an adaptation of Mailer's The Naked and the Dead), and never directed a film again.
