I love Myrna Loy in that picture, how stylish she was and how great she looks with Spencer.

Love the Charlie Chaplin one too.

These are great pictures Mongo. :D

Thanks MyrnaLoy, your kidding about the tan...right? Joan Crawford was OK in my book.

CCfan, glad that you like the images of Loy and Chaplin. Thanks for your support.

Joan Crawford was OK in my book.
She's ok in my book too, but I have a hard time shaking all the negativity that surrounds her legacy, from the whole Mommie Dearest thing, to the feud with Bette Davis, to the fact that so many of her contemporaries seemed to despise her. All this makes her seem like a monster, so seeing her in these pleasant old photographs is somewhat of a contrast compared to the Hollywood horror stories. Plus she's a good-looking gal.

I'm looking at the photo of Charlie Chaplin playing the violin to Jackie Coogan, and it is most odd. Was CC left handed? He is holding the violin in his right hand and bowing with his left, which is really strange, as the strings on the violin would need to be strung in reverse for the fingering.

Or the more likely answer is that the photo was printed backwards!

Myrnaloy, as far as Joan Crawford is concerned I take the Mommie Dearest book with a grain of salt since it was published and planned for release directly after her death. No defense.
And by far Bette Davis wasn't the easiest star to get along with.

Jezebel, not knowing much about violins I appreciate your knowledge
of the image of Chaplin. I did find out that Chaplin WAS left handed.

Thanks, Fernando. My intention was for variety and to cover as many stars as possible. There is still more to come.

Charlie Chaplin was left handed and played his violin in a left handed way, I've never heard of anyone else doing this.

Hi Joe,

Just catching up with this thread as I'm now back from a 12 day Baltic cruise and didn't take my laptop.....

1) The picture of Kathryn Grayson & Zsa Zsa Gabor and their daughters - - Kathryn & ZZ have been close friends (busom buddies) now for nearly 60 years. Nice to see a nice picture of them in their glory days!

2) Esther Williams was not yet married to Fernando Lamas when that picture of Lana, Fernando & Esther was taken.
It was taken near the end of 1952, when Fernando & Lana were quite an item and had just made "The Merry Widow" together. Esther was married then to a man called Ben Gage.
After a big fight, Lana dumped Fernando and he married Arlene Dahl.

3) The picture of Arlene Dahl and Lex Barker must be before 1953, as after the big bustup between Lana & Fernando, Lana took up with Lex and Arlene married Fernando.
It happened at a party, where Lana asked Lex to dance and they did - quite blatantly. Fernando was livid and allegedy gave Lana a black eye, after whch they all switched partners and "danced" and then married.
By 1958, they were all divorced and onto other big game!!!
Enter Esther now and she married Fernando - - can't remember the year......

Great pictures - - full of memories for me!

Cagney looks like he might have between takes on White Heat; would that fit?

Thanks Larry. I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying the images which take you down memory lane.
Also I gather that you've enjoyed your Batlic cruise.

Thanks also for straightening out the Fernando, Lana, Lex, Esther, and Arlene hoopla...yikes. By the way Esther married Fernando in 1969.

Klondike, I figure the Cagney image could be between "White Heat", "Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye" or "Come Fill the Cup"? In any event it's a great shot.

You've given us some more wonderful photos, Joe. I'm really enjoying them, and I've been showing them to anyone who comes near my laptop.

This last one of Crawford, with Davis. What is Crawford wearing????
It brings to mind the "Went With The Wind" sketch from the Carol Burnett show - when she came down the stairs in that outlandish outfit made from the window curtains: "I saw it in the window, and just couldn't resist." Looks like Joanie did the same, only in silk instead of velvet. I'd love to get a closer look at that hat she's wearing. Oy!!!!

Thanks, Judith.

Somehow Crawford's bust looks off kilter. Perhaps she left the wire hanger in the dress. Forgive me, Joan.

Hi Judith & Joe,

That picture of Joan C. & Bette D. was taken at a preproduction party Jack Warner gave before the filming of "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane"....
Surprisingly, both ladies got on very well, as can be seen in their expressions in the photo.
Joan is wearing a gold silk embroidered dress and matching hat and her diamond and emerald necklace and earrings.... I've seen other pictures of this event and both looked very 'starry'......

However, this picture is lopsided and Joan seems to be tilted and indeed looks like she's "be-hangered"!!!!!
Also, Bette later said Joan wore falsies during the movie and maybe they shifted.
Poor Joanie, it's not easy being a movie star - especially when your boobs don't co-operate!!!!!!
