I'm certain it was from others on this board some years back that I explored Ozu films and connected with his films immediately. Have seen many, but not all (the color films) and LATE SPRING is my favorite. I find the ending extraordinary (similar to the affecting end of Chaplin's CITY LIGHTS) - the father has succeeded in getting his beloved daughter to flee the nest and embrace marriage, leaving him fulfilled in her happiness, his future being now to contend with his own loneliness and solitude.
