You haven't noticed apparently that you and I disagree on a lot of things but that's just the way of the world. As long as I don't try to convince you that your opinion is wrong, and you don't try to convince me that my opinion is wrong, everything is fine with me. The troubles start when one person gets so angry they try to force their choices, or feelings on the other person. That, is in itself, wrong. We all have a right to our opinions.

Actually, I'm usually open to opposing facts because occasionally they do help me to change my mind. The first time I saw Jean Arthur was about a thousand years ago when my young mind was still pliant and changeable, not like now when I'm an old lady set in my ways, and she was starring in A Foreign Affair. Every time she opened her mouth I wanted to scream at her "quit talking like air escaping from a balloon". To me her voice is the perfect example of chalk scraping on a blackboard. On the other hand, she may sound like birds chirping on a beautiful spring day to you. We all have our foibles, good and bad. Don't give up challenging me, it helps to keep me young.

Anne, I completely agree with you and my tastes have changed over the years and will continue to change, I'm sure. Tastes different to my own often encourage me to try other genres or stars. That's one of the best things about being on this board, nobody does try to force their views down anyone's throat. It's so grown up around here

Oh - I forgot Jane Wyman. Does she annoy anyone else? Is it the fact that she has no upper lip and needs bangs desperately? Or do I just have latent childhood memories that it was her fault that Pollyanna was paralyzed?

I love Van Johnson, and think he's a very underrated actor. So manly and naturalistic!

Jean Arthur is my fave screwball comedienne besides Marion Davies! She's so unique! But different strokes for different folks, I guess.

I even like John Wayne.

Bette Davis= don't even go there for me!

James Stewart. I used to like him, but now his gosh darn folksy persona sets my teeth on edge.
Grace Kelly. Beautiful and dull. As an actress, barely competent.
Robert Montgomery. Smug and smarmy.
Charlton Heston. Projects an aura of dull self-righteousness.
Hedy Lamarr. Complete and utter lack of any screen presence.

It's funny, but the last time I viewed Disney's animated Cinderella with the family, the wicked stepmother put me in mind of Crawford - especially during the voice lesson scene in which she chides both of her daughters for their evident lack of self control, then there's a knock at the door and she responds with an infuriated "YES!" accompanied by a violent bang on the piano keys.

June Allyson--She gives me the biggest creeps with that sugary grin. Probably would've loved her in real life--who knows.
