Funny Ladies

Post by ken123 »

It seems that back in " the good old days " films had many ladies who could " really play " comedy, Joan Blondell, Irene Dunne, Carole Lombard, Eve Arden, Thelma Ritter, and the list goes on and on, but not so today. Do you have any favorites of today or yesterday ?

I guess we can add Katharine Hepburn and Doris Day on that list because they could be silly when they wanted to. I've always enjoyed watching these comedians:

Lucille Ball
Carol Burnett
Imogene Coca
Lily Tomlin

TV show comedians:

Estelle Getty as "Sophia Petrillo" on Golden Girls.
Vicki Lawrence as "Thelma Harper" on Mama's Family.
Agnes Moorehead as "Endora" on Betwitched.

Two actresses that made me laugh my head off with the film "Death Becomes Her":

Meryl Streep
Goldie Hawn

Bette Davis also made me laugh a few times with her black humor and deranged characters. Especially in "What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?".

Along with Joan Blondell, Ann Southern is one of my favorite actresses who could crack wise with the best of them. I was so happy to see that TCM is giving Annie a day of her films on Wednesday, August 30th.
