Actors you watch, no matter what the film is about
Probably missing some good films because of it, but oh well.dfordoom wrote:Yes, same here!traceyk wrote:because I'm prejudiced against war movies and westerns. I shear off from anything with words like "battle" or "squadron," "cheyenne," "canyon, " "west," etc in the titles, no matter who's in them.

I dragged this old thread out after reading Hollis' thread about great character actors. Anyone want to update or add anything? or I can just go back to my quiet little corner.......

Re: Actors you watch, no matter what the film is about
The only actors I can think of that I will watch no matter the picture they're in:
Judy Garland
James Mason
Agnes Moorehead
I'll watch these folks multiple times in an otherwise bad picture!

Re: Actors you watch, no matter what the film is about
I have become such an AM fan! I think the first time I saw her was in the Humphrey Bogart-Lauren Bacall Dark Passage or in Since You Went Away and she was so nasty, I fled from anything with her name in it. SILLY ME!!!!. After Johnny Belinda, and then Pollyanna, I started looking for anything with her in it. Wonderful actress! I think my favorite of her movies will always be Our Vines have Tender Grapes

Wow, Stephen, what a list! Do you even have time to take a breath? I'm teasing of course, but when I really look at your names, almost every one of them is a "Well, of course! Why didn't I think of him/her before?"

Re: Actors you watch, no matter what the film is about
I want to add two more to my list, who occurred to me this afternoon:
Paul Scofield (though he made precious few films)
Catherine Deneuve
Knitwit45-- congratulations are in order! I'm dying for Our Vines Have Tender Grapes to be released on DVD, so I can finally see it.

And don't feel too sorry for me. After this week, I'll have plenty of time to take a breath. I'm finishing up on my job and while the last month has been hectic, after Friday I'll have oodles of free time.

I can go with Norma, would rather have Doug snr but jnr is cute. Can't say I've watch much of Hedy only Algiers. Perhaps if I were a guy I'd appreciate her more. For her type of beauty I'd rather have Ava Gardner, she really catches my eye. I love The Barefoot Contessa. She has something, if I were a guy, that's whose poster I'd have up.Garbomaniac wrote:Allison, I am just going to take your list and add Hedy, Norma, and Doug, Jr.
