Johnny Mitchell... or Douglass Drake... or...

Anyone know the story of "Johnny Mitchell"? I'm watching him now in the Frank Borzage film The Vanishing Virginian. So far I've learnd that his name was Douglas Lamy and that he worked at three different studios -- each under a different name! He eventually took the name Johnny Mitchell, which was name of the character he played in Mr. Skeffington. He died at age 32! It's all so vague and confusing. Anyone familiar this handsome actor?
