I agree, Vienna. She should have at least have been nominated for Calamity Jane!
"I Can Do Without You" is also one of my favorites.

Interestingly, the first CALAMITY JANE I saw was a TV special with a young Carol Burnett. I absolutely adored her! I've since seen the movie more than once. Cute as all get out.

"What a Difference a Day Made - Doris Day Superstar"

Post by rmeingast »

Just FYI that this 90 minute documentary is available for viewing online at the TVO website:
http://ww3.tvo.org/video/199818/what-di ... -superstar

TVO aired the documentary at 9:00 p.m. on Feb. 15, 2014, and reran it in the wee hours of the 16th.

But it's available to view online until March 15, 2014. So if you can't watch the entire thing at one sitting, you can return to it later.

The TVO blurb for the film is below:

"WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MADE, DORIS DAY SUPERSTAR is an endearing and somewhat quirky account of Doris Day's life and career. It offers fascinating insight into Doris' distant Germanic roots, her hardworking days in Hollywood and twilight years retired with her dogs in a picturesque and pet-friendly town. Covering serious and respectful journalism which actually enables Joe Public to impartially appraise the woman who is a cultural icon of the 20th and 21st century. With a healthy dose of movie, television and song clips which represent all facets of Doris Day the entertainer; unique material from private archives; all-new interviews with actors Philip Brown, Peter Graves, Jackie Joseph and Noah Keen, biographers Pierre Patrick and Tom Santopietro, Doris Day fans, childhood acquaintances and even distant relatives from Germany. This is all wrapped up with some fascinating on-location filming of historical landmarks and buildings relevant to Doris Day's family, career and life from her birth place of Cincinnati, her current home town of Carmel-by-the-Sea to the German province. A 2008 telephone conversation between Doris and the film's makers is also notably contained which occurred during Doris's annual "birthday" call-in on her local radio station with DJ Ed Dickinson [where the production team were visiting]. A timely reminder of what a difference having Doris Day has made to the world."

Fyi, when I attempted to view the video (from New York) the following message was displayed instead: "We're sorry, the video you're trying to watch cannot be viewed from your current geographic location due to rights restrictions."

I have a feeling this video is available only within Canada. Perhaps another of our Canadian members, like Larry or Western Guy, would be able to play it back successfully.

I didn't watch the whole thing just now, but I was able to access the video by using a Canadian proxy. Couldn't from US or UK though.

Only Available in Canada

Sorry about that. I live in Ontario, Canada, and wasn't aware the video is only available online to viewers here.
But that often happens to me when I want to view videos originating in the United States. Same message.
Rights don't extend outside United States.
Again, sorry. I wasn't aware.

Sue Sue,

I just can't click on this link because Google Chrome (my browser) can't not handle the tp link that you provided us to click on for the 25 minute long interview with Doris Day. Sorry - I just don't have access to it.

Doris Day

Post by Fossy »

Doris Day

I was quite content to have all of Doris Day`s Movies, and then I found the western movie Saga Of Death Valley (1941) with Doris Day in it, so I bought it. It is just an ordinary western with our hero (Roy Rogers) well dressed, with a pretty horse, and of course the mandatory white hat. He soon sorted out the bad guys. However I could not find Doris Day.

So I checked the cast list and found Doris Day, the love interest in the film who looked nothing like Doris Day. Further research revealed that before Doris Day there was Doris Day. Confusing isn`t it?

Doris Day (1910-1998), appeared in thirteen movies between 1939 and 1943. In nine of these she is listed by IMDB as uncredited, in four she was the leading female, and in one she sang.

Doris Day (1924-and still going strong) achieved much greater fame, and when Doris Day is mentioned this is the one which springs to mind.
