There wasn't much more tears and schmaltz involved than in most other movies made in that time frame. If directors knew then what they know now about developing character back stories, it might have been a better movie. I wonder what happened to the money, and did the people end up living in the street? The movie ending up celebrating her birthday seemed kind of after the fact to me. BTW Marion Davies needed a whole lot of acting lessons, as well as walking and what to do with her hands during scenes.

Let's face it though, it wasn't much different than watching a Maizie movie - just an easy way to spend 90 minutes on a rainy day, plus Ann Sothern was a much better actress.
