This might not exactly be what you meant here Kay, but the first thought that came to my mind in this regard was:
'The Ox-Bow Incident', and where Henry Fonda reads aloud Dana Andrews' last letter to his wife in that saloon and thus makes all the vigilantes who had earlier lynched the three innocent men, feel about two foot small.
(...this would be a case of "sweet revenge" in my book anyway...and yes, even though Hank wasn't actually one of the vigilantes in the truest sense of the word here)
