I promise you...Lincoln will be safe and no myths are debunked. Believe me...I know about "printing the legend." I'm a movie buff and one of Pappy's distant step-children. I wouldn't send you into the lions den. All bets are off on Marcus Aurelius though. ( :P )

Really? Okay, I trust the Mave. Maybe I'll catch both flicks next week. And yes, Viv is the proof of the puddling. :D

That Tonto casting is pretty far out. Maybe it's a spoof.

All I'm hearing about SKYFALL sounds wonderful. Not like a Bond film? That's a good thing! Prior to this reincarnation, The 00 Section had gotten pretty stale. Still, I probably won't see it anytime soon. I haven't seen Craig as Bond yet. I should start at the beginning. Mainly, I'm SO disappointed, annoyed even, with modern action films. The "in your face" super hero stuff, the head spinning vampire hunters; it's technology laden and misguided. If 007 has risen above that, gotten back to basics, I tip my razor-rimmed bowler to him. But I've had enough. I'll watch GOLDFINGER again!

I was thinking while I was watching it that there are a few similarities to "GoldenEye." You pictured one but also that Silva is a former wronged agent just like Sean Bean's "Trevellyan" was. That was also a revenge plot.
Whoa! I appreciate you saying that Chris, thank you. You're right about "GoldenEye." I thought of that while I was watching "Skyfall." A funny turnabout happened to me with James Bond at MoMA. I didn't like "Diamonds AreForever" as much as I did when I saw the movie initially. And "GoldenEye" I really liked at MoMA but hadn't liked it on its initial release. Sean Bean was good!
I like Craig very much. He's a different Bond even then Dalton and Brosnan. They were tough, though not as, but there is a deeper seriousness here. Even when he does drop a line it is less cheeky than sarcastic. And delivered with a bite.
I totally here you on that score. He's weightier than Dalton and Brosnan. That could be the scripts he's had to work with. I'm just totally sold on Craig.
I like the way the characters are fleshed out. Even on those we don't see that much of like Q and Mallory I felt like we got enough background to get to know who they are.
Yes. You're right. I think "Q" began to doubt himself when things went wrong. Mallory, I'm still trying to figure out and wonder how his relationship with Bond will develop. Men are more contentious with each other. Everybody wants to be the alpha dawg.
I liked that it was less techy than the other films. It was wit and raw power. And some good luck
There was a moment when Bond was running in the street after the Underground wreck that struck me. It wasn't glamourous or Bond-y. At first I said to myself: "How ignominious." He was running in traffic, like a flat foot. But then I thought...he was doing what a regular cop on the beat would do...run, look around, chase. No tracking device. Good ol' fashion detective work. Back to basics. Or maybe I'm just gilding the lily b'cuz I'm enamored of the whole thing.
Someone mentioned it in a review that MGM's money trouble delayed this long enough for the release to coincide with the 50th anniversary. It may have given enough time to make sure they got it right.
Really? I hadn't heard that. Well good timing, what. I didn't follow too much talk about Bond before hand. It's the one movie I want to go in cold and clean and watch it unfold. A friend spoiled "Eve" for me...but even hearing it and knowing who she is wound up being okay. I knew, "I would have been surprised." I would never see Bond in 3-D. Not a big fan of 3-D. Just tell me the story, will ya. I just need the story.

April, if you go here: http://www.cbs.com/shows/late_show/vide ... HhmAOMvhY2 you will see a seven-minute clip of Sally Field's interview about getting the role in "Lincoln." It wasn't a walk in the park, either. She auditioned. I'm not sure what pills Bond was popping. But probably for the pain. Remember, he had shrapnel in his shoulder that he later cut out. Whew!

And if I tell you guys that I read this thread from the bottom up and posted Scarlett w/o knowing you had already pegged her.
I was just reading a bit on Craig at Imdb.com. I like him better now I read his background. I thought I detected a wee bit o' Liverpuddlian tones in his speech. And his Dad owned a pub. Sold! :D
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Finally!

I vaguely remember GoldenEye and I did make the connection with Silva and Sean Beam. Good catch! I thought Skyfall was a return to 007...to me the recent flicks were less faithful to the spirit. Particularly, this one seemed to emphasize "Britishness" and that seemed lacking lately. I think I even mentioned this here in an earlier conversation. I really liked "M" reading from Tennyson. It gave me goose pimples. T, thanks for the link! i didn't know Sally was in Lincoln. Boy, does Hollywood think she was still only "Gidget" and "Norma Rae"? I'm surprised Tom Hanks didn't land the big part (if he lost weight for it). He's a distant relation of the fallen president.

Red, give Craig a chance as Bond. And to be fair ( you are a fair-minded person aren't you? ) you should start with "Casino Royale" "Quantum of Solace" and then this one...just to see the depth and breadth of things.

Or heck, you should start with "SKYFALL" and jump in the deep end of the pool. The water's fine.

This is why I like DR. NO. It has as much in common with classic detective fiction as with later spy films. Basics...back to basics!

A dip in that pool is looking pretty good right about now!

And it leads up to the scene in the hearing room where "M" and Mallory are waiting on Silva. There it is just a gunfight. Nothing extraordinary weapon-wise just a plain old fashioned style gunfight. Quick cuts, no over the top blood and just quick thinking gets it done. Even the climax at Skyfall is low tech and still exciting.

And you get bonus points for using "ignominious" when talking to yourself. :)

I don't think I could abide seeing Tom Hanks as Lincoln, Miss G. No, Day-Lewis is masterful.

You got it. I can't help think M stalled for time setting herself as bait...waiting for Silva, and Bond to show up. Hey, Eve looked pretty good there too grabbing a gun and shooting it out at the OK Corral. ( I believed her more than Halle Berry. Shhhhhh! Don't tell. )

Maven I skipped your review, because I will try to go see the movie if we can just get away for a moment or two this week. Anything that can generate this much discussion must be great!
