Yeah, he was a very well-to-do young man. D'ya think we don't believe him b'cuz we're so used to seeing the rough & tumble Bogie? Folks probably had a little trouble believing him as Duke Mantee on Broadway at the beginning of the thirties. Funny how perspective changes things.

You might be right there, I didn't grow up knowing who he was but I certainly saw his later films first. It's probably difficult to accept him because we're so used to the other side of him.
