Happy Mothers Day!

Post by knitwit45 »

to all our mothers, both living and gone, here's a bouquet just for you.

Before I was a Mom

I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom -
I had never been puked on.
Pooped on.
Chewed on.
Peed on.

I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom

I never held down a screaming child so doctors could do tests.
Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom

I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put him down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom -

I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mom -

I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache,
the wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much, before I was a Mom.

Happy Mother's Day. A difficult job. Often done with grace, humility, sacrifice and love.

I am so blessed to have the mother I do.

Had to drag this one up to the top, just to wish all the mothers, aunts, sisters, cousins and friends who take part in nurturing our children. There are lots of single Dads out there who have been both Mother and Father, and I humbly salute them, too.

Be sure to read the little essay at the top, I wish I could claim it as mine, but it is one of those anonymous email type things that land in my inbox each year...still beautiful.

Happy Mother's Day to all my fellow mothers. [Sister mothers?]

It's the best job I ever had, and now being the mother of an adult makes the dynamic even more interesting.

I am so looking forward to the promised brunch, with mimosas. (And it's nice to be able to share a celebratory drink with my grown-up daughter.) Fancy dinners are fine, but breakfast is definitely my favorite meal to eat out. Pancakes, here I come!

Good Morning,

Thanks for remembering us double duty fathers Nancy, it's very gracious of you. And thank you also for the verse, it really hits home, even to a father.

With respect to my own mom, it was 22 years ago this past April 24th (her 74th birthday) That I said goodbye to her for the last time. A little more than two years later, I lost my dad on what would have been their 46th wedding anniversary. After all the time that's passed, I still miss them and finding myself wanting to say to them all the things I didn't get the chance to. I don't have to wonder why I'm such a fan of the movies made in the 40's. I know. It's because those are the movies that they watched together, or alone, and it makes me feel a little more connected to them. That might sound silly to some, but it's as real as real gets to me.

Happy Mother's Day to all of you wonderful, caring and loving ladies. Where would we be without you ?

As always,

Hollis

My mother is currently celebrating today in beautiful Hawaii. I would call to wish her a Happy Mother's Day but I'd probably be an interruption at this point!

Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers out there in cinema land. Without you the world wouldn't go 'round - nor would all the naughty little boys have had someone to hide behind when the fathers of the world broke out their belts when they got bad grades or messed up some nice tools! (not that I ever did either, of course)

Beautiful words, Nancy, and spot-on for timing!
They come as close as any words could to expressing the jigsaw of eye-burning emotions that build that inevitable lump in all our throats.
Motherhood might be "mankind's second-oldest profession", but it is also, without question, our most ancient & awesome Career.
When our Cait gave birth to her firstborn, our granddaughter Shea Athena, her Mom put her arm around her and said, smiling tearfully, "welcome to the job you can never quit".
That day, she took those words on faith; eight years later, giving birth to her third & final child, she knew them to be true.
Slainte, and bless you, to all those hard-working, long-suffering, inconquerable Women Ancestors who stand behind us every day of our lives!

Why GOD MADE MOMS

Answers given by 2nd grade school children to the following questions:

Why did God make mothers?
1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
2. Mostly to clean the house.
3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?
1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.
3. God made my Mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of ?
1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
2. They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.

Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom?
1. We're related.
2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's moms like me.

What kind of little girl was your mom?
1. My Mom has always been my mom and none of that other stuff.
2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
3. They say she used to be nice.

What did Mom need to know about dad before she married him?
1. His last name.
2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer?
3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

Why did your mom marry your dad?
1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my Mom eats a lot.
2. She got too old to do anything else with him.
3. My grandma says that Mom didn't have her thinking cap on.

Who's the boss at your house?
1. Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's such a goof ball.
2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.
3. I guess Mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.

What's the difference between moms & dads?
1. Moms work at work and work at home and dads just go to work at work.
2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them...
3. Dad s are taller & stronger, but moms have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend's.
4. Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.

What does your mom do in her spare time?
1. Mothers don't do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your mom perfect?
1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
2. Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be?
1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that.
2. I'd make my mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.
3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

ASTOUNDING!

That whole list is %100 true!! :x :x :x :x :x

Man, if I'd known my kids were THAT smart, I would have run away from home!!

Of course I figured out most of that stuff about MY Mom, and it didn't help me very much!

Maybe my kids should have been born to my Mother, and eliminated my goofing up everything in the middle!

Silent Screen,

Amazing ! It proves the old adage that "Out of the mouths of babes come pearls of wisdom" (or something to that effect !) Thanks for the post. If I were still a teenager, I'd say it made me LOL !

That'd be my son-in-law Doug, who is also my downstairs tenant & my employee.
We're watching his three monsters for him today so he can go play golf!
Nancy, huzzah on finding this thread . . . though it rocked me a bit to come across Hollis' post!

Klondike, it made me gulp a couple of times, too. I hesitated to put it up again, but he would look at me and yell "Bulls***!!! Post it!!!!"
