Thank you, we've had a lovely Christmas, they've both really enjoyed themselves and Father Christmas has brought them everything they asked for this year (all the health professionals who've asked Libby over the last couple of days have asked what Father Christmas is gettig her and she's replied that she didn't know because last year she wated a telescope and she got a bobble hat instead! It has to said last years list was huge and the telescope was the only omission) I'm looking around my living room, there's not room to put anything down, despite us picking up all the wrapping and packaging. Bless them, they make Christmas wonderful.

Last night we had tears, she couldn't get to sleep and she couldn't get it out of her head what had happened and she was scared that Father Christmas wouldn't come if she didn't get to sleep in time. She finally went to sleep at 1am but today she's been fine. We banned family from talking about it in front of her. I had a talk to her last night, she was feeling sorry for herself, why her and once I'd told her that I took tablets everyday for the stomach operation I had as a child, her dad's completely deaf in one ear, each grandparent has an ailment, two from childhood and both uncles have something too. What a bunch we are but it put it into perspective, that none of us thought about these things unless we had to recount them to doctors.

We couldn't ask for better care for her, we need to be prepared for it happening again, have things to hand to entertain her and plenty of drinnks for us.

Fingers crossed, I know I'll be nervous when the tests approach and certainly when we have to see the consultant.

Hi Alison---i haven't been here much and just saw this thread...I'm sorry your Libby is going through this, but I'm confident everything will be fine. I had a seizure when I was about 9 or so, and was consequently on medication (Tegretol) for a long while, however it didn't impede my life in any other way. I'm sure Libby will come through fine, and so will you. One day at a time, and know that all will be well.

Alice had a good Christmas, she got a lot of real art supplies and her favorite gift was a sketch tablet. If I'd known that, I would have skipped all the other more exotic stuff.

and though I didn't quite know how to say it before without sounding weird, Alice also had seizures when she was born, but has been healthy since then, thank goodness. I think it might have taken some years off of Andrew and me, what with the worrying and all those doctors visits.

I know how scary it must be, even more for the parent than the child. You must feel helpless, as you say.
Regardless of what is causing it, I'm very confident she will get better and at most, have to take some
medicine for a while. Just know you have this place to come and ease your mind a wee bit. For me,
distractions of any pleasant kind always helped me stay balanced and not feel overwhelmed. I'm
glad you at least have family around you. Your Mum sounds like a dear. I could never tell my mother
anything serious, she's very negative, I'm afraid, and not intentionally.

I think my main concern at the moment is not knowig what will happen next, another one could come at ay time but in the meantime we are carrying on as normal, it's that slight feeling of anxiety in the pit of my stomach that is the constant reminder, I don't mind carrying that feeling around but don't want her to feel it.

Well put, Alison - and of course it's simple to grasp what you mean: we always want to be living shields for our children, sometimes bold & bright and clear as the noonday sun, other times as invisible as possible, so that our charges will not be aware of our protections or the depth of our worries.
One of the best summations I've ever read on this topic was, bizarrely, from writer Stephen King, who said, succinctly: "No-one ever knows true fear until they're a parent."

I told my very good friend Kathy about Libby today. She is Mum to three grown boys, is a widow, and runs her own business. Quite a lady! She and I, and another friend, Barbara, are the ones going on the cruise in March. What a trio we will make!
We both agree that it must be very difficult to not know as of yet what's causing these fits. I told Kathy how lovely and what a good child
your Libby is. She will be all right in the long run. Hang in there! You've lot's of people thinking and praying for her!
