David,

I didn't know about this thread but earlier last week, I posted about Kane vs Vertigo in this thread (in case anyone wants to read it, you can post about it here rather than have the subject straddling two threads.)

Wow, nice thread. I thought I was the only person who could come up with a decent thread about LISTS. I was very surprised to see a LISTS thread here today. Rey:

Good to have you over here too.

"Gardens of Stones" is an interesting choice as a favorite. I saw it years ago and thought it an interesting film. The subject matter is rare and I think unique.

I'll certainly agree with you on "Silverado."

Thanks Chris,

I often come over here to read, especially when I don't have a lot of time to write. Today is an off day for me, so I thought it would be a good time to post some thoughts. Maybe I should post some more lists, but I am sure you are aware of my propensity to write many, many lists. But who cares right? I am sure that there are many folks here who never post over on the Message Boards, only here.

As far as my favorites from the eighties, I really, really like The Stunt Man, Star Trek II, Local Hero, The Right Stuff, The Natural, and Hoosiers.

Delighted to see that somebody else likes "Eye of the Needle" and "Outland." I am especially surprised that "Eye of the Needle" seems to have died without a trace. It rarely seems to be shown anywhere as far as I can tell. Is it another case of the company that made the film folded and the rights are in legal limbo?

Space movies have never generally been among my favorites but often they resemble westerns. That was how I saw "Outland." Although I guess you could figure it as much cops and robbers as anything else.

Gosh, I haven't seen either of those for years. Maybe it is about rights issues. I remember Eye of the Needle was very well thought of by critics when it came out.

As a fan of fast paced spy novels, I found "Needle" a credible adaptation. And that Donald Sutherland! I could watch that man in anything.

Rey, thanks for posting and for reminding us of some good movies from the 80s. Please post your favorites. I'm also on the Eye of the Needle bandwagon. Can you believe that Donald Sutherland has never been nominated for an Oscar?
Thanks. I am not surprised that Sutherland has never been nominated. You would have thought that the least the academy could have done by now was to give him an honorary Oscar. But then they are more consumed with giving honorary Oscars to people who already have won an Oscar, like Robert Redford for winning best director for Ordinary People and then a few years back getting another Oscar for his Sundance Institute. They could have given several honorary Oscars to more deserving folks who were still alive at that point, like Richard Widmark. But no, it is really a "political" thing at the Academy now.
