I tried to watch Harold last night, but no one wanted to watch with me. We ended up watching Dirk Gently instead.

Lilly Turner this morning. Frank McHigh was just as good this time through as he was when I watched it a couple months ago. Brilliant performance as an alcoholic traveling show actor. This one might be a George Brent film that Kingrat might like.

I would have been watching it with you. I could have even called you since that would have been as close as we could get.

Oh man, that would have been a great time! Next time, I'll give you a call.

I've only just discovered that there was a TV show of Douglas Adams' Dirk Gently. It's pretty funny.

I was just thinking that as I started watching my copy of "The Divorcee." I think it's because his nose is too short. No, seriously...as shallow as it sounds, his profile with that short squat nose does him no justice. He's very good with Norma Shearer in this movie. And also I think the bench was soooooo deep back then. There was nothing really to differentiate him or distinguish him from Franchot Tone. Maybe it really is who comes on the Hollywood scene first?

Shug! Come get your Daddy...
kingrat wrote:Maven, I did notice in THE BIG HOUSE that Chester Morris looked much better in full face shots as opposed to right profile shots, so maybe you're right. He's a handsome hunk in full face but a character actor in profile. I vaguley recall Chester Morris as a pleasant supporting actor in various TV shows, but would never have guessed how handsome he looked as a younger man.
Brother Rat, I think you succinctly hit it on the...nose. Boston Blackie is a leading man in full face/character actor in prrrrofeel. The darnedest thing. Check out Liberace on HB0 Sunday nite.

I thought the same thing guys, watching those two movies! I thought Morris was superb - in the yelling screaming moments he scared me, and in the quiet reflective ones I felt bad for him.

I gotta say, I lerve The Divorcee, in all it's pre-code sordidness and sex appeal! My favorite Norma Shearer movie. Also enjoyed Complicated Women, the documentary about precodes. I'd never seen it before.

Darn it, I missed recording "Complicated Women." Ran out of room on my DVR and should have deleted "Experiment Perilous" weeks ago to make room. Blecccch! Norma looked pretty today in "The Divorcee" - that hair cut and her anger at her husband having an affair "that didn't mean anything."

Yeah, I know honey. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Sooooooooooooo, just let me get that one wrong in ( on you ) and moving forward, we'll do right.

Yeah.

I just watched "B.F.'s Daughter with Barbara Stanwyck and Van Heflin. I loved it.

I like BF's DAUGHTER too. That Stanwyck knew how to choose a project. I haven't seen a lot of Norma Shearer movies. In THE WOMEN, she reaches a depth that's almost astonishing. So very pure. One of the best ensembles ever gathered, and she's still the one who shines through!

I am revisiting Day of the Jackal AGAIN. I just love the documentary feel of it, and the European locales.
