Glad to hear Ms. Fleming is still around. I hope she's in good health. As a younger woman, she was so strikingly beautiful it was awe inspiring!

How cold was Rhonda? I expected her to do the dirty on her new guy as well, a good example of a movie that fits into 90 minutes perfectly and doesn't have a lag in the storyline.

Never saw it in color until many years later. This film is exciting, suspenseful, character driven. That Rhonda! What a b...never mind! My favorite character is the rattlesnake! Go away, for God's sake! Stop terrorizing this man. Dependable Robert Ryan is good as always. His committed acting brings believability to the story, as it always does.

This is an example of a movie that makes no pretense at greatness; not like the truly splendid crime dramas do. It's not OUT OF THE PAST; not WHITE HEAT. But it's just so much fun! You root for the hero; despise the villains. And the snake! You can't take your eyes off the story, all the while recognizing that "lack of greatness." There are a lot of classic era movies like this. Sometimes they're more fun than the big winners!

 D'0H!!! Ya got me, Red!! Good one.

Alison, Red River...you both have whet my appetite for "INFERNO" and RHONDA FLEMING. Missed a chance to see her at TCM's Film Festival, a big regret. Listen...whether she's a good girl, or a bad girl...in black 'n white or in color, she's the one to watch. She had the look, a sultry voice, a sweet smile. "Slightly Scarlet" "Cry Danger" "Out of the Past" "While the City Sleeps" "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral" "Home Before Dark" and "The Crowded Sky" are films I've seen her in; and I'll add "Inferno" before too long. Don't worry, I know I know...of course she's not her roles.

She's Acting. Now...let me see what that snake has got over Rhonda!!

Inferno was originally shot in 3D. It's a nice little desert noir that has only recently resurfaced and I hope TCM will play it sometime--it's been quite awhile since I've seen it, but certain scenes still haunt me.

Hi,

It would be great to feature Miss Fleming at the TCM Film Festival next year...

Perhaps "Inferno" could be shown then; and that one she did with Arlene Dahl (Scarlet something?).. They would make a great duo on stage; two truly classic beauties!!!
I think Miss Dahl went on one of the cruises, so she'd be game for appearing, I hope..

Larry

You're adding more fuel on the fire for watching "Inferno" Mr. A.

Nice avatar. Is that you?

Took my darling daughter to see "West Side Story" and the theater this morning. They didn't show it in the right aspect ratio. Natalie Wood had short legs.

I guess they, or the distributor, think people really need a filled up screen no matter what it does to the focus or the integrity of the film. I sent an email thanking them for showing these films on the weekend but hope they would reconsider the next time they show a Panavision 70 film.

It was nice being with Mo but the whole day started off bad and I see no change in sight.

Fleming fan that I am, I tend to forget she was in OUT OF THE PAST. Overshadowed by an even sultrier femme! Plus, in black and white, that flaming red hair doesn't overwhelm the memory. Thank God, there's no rattlesnake in this one!

Red - How can you forget Rhonda Fleming in "OUT OF THE PAST" ?? She made quite the impression as Meta Carson, a girl who didn't mind being handled roughly by Robert Mitchum. ( Click on foto for a review of the film. )

So I guess it stands to reason that you totally forgot about Fleming's small role in Hitchcock's "SPELLBOUND." Here she is being psychoanalyzed by Ingrid Bergman. Rhonda's problem? Well, she's just a girl who...can't...say...no.

Oh...and let's leave rattlesnakes out of this.

( But if ya wuz ever bitten by a bee...let's talk! )

Maven, thanks for commenting on my Dodsworth review. I appreciate it so much!

I loved the scene with Rhonda in Spellbound - I saw the movie again recently and I actually liked that scene better than any in the movie. It's wonderful.

I was mightily surprised at Robert Ryan in Inferno since he always scared me up until I saw it. It really grabs you and won't let go. Ditto what Red, said, no pretense, just good solid action and acting. This was sort of my breakthrough role for him. After this film, I could watch him without being ready to click the remote away in fear.

Always a pleasure to read your posts, Jaxxxon. Well...it looks like when I get back from my walk, I will have to put "INFERNO" in the old dvd machine and check out just what you and the others are talking about.

As I am re-typing my spreadsheet database of films from my dvd library ( I was going to hyperlink the titles to IMDB, but that exercise is proving too daunting ) I started seeing names of films you and Alison have talked about. NOW I know where you're getting these films from. I have some of 'em in my library too.

And again, I thank that Man From Texas.

I can't believe it. I HAD forgotten about the spellbinding Ms. Fleming in the appropriately titled Hitchcock classic. These gross oversights are merely the result of my poor memory; not a lack of impression while viewing. If it didn't happen this week, it didn't happen!

One of the problems of being a member of SSO is that it whets my appetite to look for more films. I find that I have only two Rhonda Fleming movies. The Buster Keaton Story (1957) which is part of my Ann Blyth collection (29) and Slightly Scarlet (1956) which is part of my Arlene Dahl collection (21).

Now I suppose I will have to look for more Rhonda Fleming movies.

I watched a fun movie today called "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" (1982) with Steve Martin.
It's a film noir parody with a detective uncovering a sinister plot. Characters (movie stars) from real noirs of the 1940s appear as scenes from various films are intercut.

To be honest, the story isn't the most important thing about this film, it is all the classic film clips placed in with the great array of classic stars. Stars placed in the film include Ingrid Bergman (Notorious), Humphrey Bogart (The Big Sleep, In a Lonely Place and Dark Passage), James Cagney (White Heat), Joan Crawford (Humoresque), Bette Davis (Deception), Kirk Douglas (I Walk Alone), Ava Gardner (The Killers and The Bribe), Cary Grant (Suspicion), Veronica Lake (The Glass Key), Fred MacMurray (Double Indemnity), Ray Milland (The Lost Weekend), Burt Lancaster (The Killers), Charles Laughton (The Bribe), Vincent Price (The Bribe), Barbara Stanwyck (Sorry, Wrong Number) and Lana Turner (Johnny Eager and The Postman Always Rings Twice). There is some funny dialogue and tiny moments of slapstick, even if you haven't seen the films placed in, this spoof is still one for the film buffs. Very good!

I've seen it several times. Like you, the story isn't the important part. In fact, I think it is fairly hard to follow after a point. The editing is wonderful and I think it works.

You know who to call if you ever catch a bullet.

It's sounds a fun film, I've never watched it but always fancied it because of the title.

I've whetted everyone's appetite for Inferno and Rhonda Fleming and I'm not surprised. It must have looked wonderful in technicolour on the big screen.

My appetite has been whetted for Dana Andrews by reading his biography, he isn't an actor that I knew very much about but from the first film I saw him in (Laura) I was hooked. I rented Fallen Angel with him, Linda Darnell as a woman who cast her favours about with any barfly she came across (very daring for the time, how did it get passed the censors) and Alice Faye as a woman living alone with her sister and in danger of staying that way. Dana plays a chancer, out to make money in any way, fast and then to get out of town, he alights on the idea of marrying Alice and running away with Linda, he manages the first but comes unstuck with the second. I won't give the twist away but it's a good noir, well worth watching.
