I saw Torvill and Dean perform in Vancouver B.C. one time ... they were fabulous!charliechaplinfan wrote:We had Torvill and Dean, anyone heard of them? They performed an iceskating routine to Bolero in 1984 Olympics and got perfect 6.0's from every judge. They also danced a routine called Mack and Mabel based on Mack Sennett and Mabel Normand.

Torvill and Dean were perfect, such fun to watch, they now have a TV show thst gets celebrities to skate, I don't watch I never know who the 'celebrities' are but I've never forgot their best routines.

Alison, T and D did a sort of psychological skating that I don't think we will see again. Some of their routines could take you from the beginning of a relationship to the end of it, all through body movement.

Re: The Olympics
My knowledge of ice skating began with Torvill and Dean, I was just the right age to appreciate how great they were and how romantic, I think it was the romanticism that appealed to me at the time, they were never lovers but it didn't stop the public for wanting them to be. Starting with Torvill and Dean was a hard act to follow, we're not a big Winter Olympic nation, we've never had any like them since, they were perfection.

Oh absolutely! We haven't really seen that romanticism since them, have we? I do miss it. I remember how everyone thought that they were a couple but married to other people.
