Movieman1957, most vegetables will taste pretty good with butter slathered on them.

MrCutter and I are going very non-traditional this year and I'm grilling two steaks to have along with a salad, some caprese and quinoa with black beans, diced olives, corn, tomatoes and a little red onion.
We are spending the weekend catching up with friends including meeting up with Kingrat in Aguoura Hills for dinner on Saturday, so we don't have much time to eat the left overs from a big, traditional meal.
Besides, I grill a really good steak.

It is still entirely possible that The Bride will cook one over the weekend for us because she likes the leftovers. What I like for Thanksgiving, or pretty much anytime, she summed in one word - beige. She says I eat beige food. It's bland. I'm bland. She still loves me, go figure.

We are having the usual turkey (butterball) with trimmings. We are eating over our daughter Veronica's
house and she also makes a mean Waldorf salad. Our daughter Audrey is having her in-laws over.

This all sounds so yummy! I am going to my best friend from college's house up in the country with my son. Currently I am making my broccoli salad.
Dressing (It takes at least 8 hours in the fridge!)
2 cups mayonaise
1 cup sugar
12 tbs. red wine vinegar
Mix ingredients together, put into a plastic container in the fridge.
(I usually stir it up or shake the container once every two hours)
4 large heads of broccoli
1 large purple onion
8-12 strips of crispy, fried bacon
1-1/2 chopped pecans (walnuts just won't do this recipe justice, honey!)
1-1 1/2 cups raisins (or craisins), plumped in a glass of hot water,
and drained after they hydrate.
(Golden raisins won't do!)
Into a large bowl, add the following:
All the broccoli flowers
The finely chopped purple onion
Bacon strips, finely crumbled
Plumped raisins
Cover it with the dressing, stir it all together,and let it "rest" it in the fridge until time to serve. The longer it stays in the fridge, the better it tastes!

I will be going over to my Brother's Place for Thanksgiving around Noon tomorrow and have a traditional dinner for about an average of 14-18 members of our family and play Hearts afterwards. It is our tradition to play Hearts afterwards so that we can all be sociable and if I see any good movies tomorrow ... I have my DVR to record them and watch them later.

Moira, I don't think you blanch the broccoli, Christy's recipe is very similar to one I've used. The best part is the crunchiness of the crisp bacon bits and the broccoli. If left entirely to my own devices for Thanksgiving, I might stick to turkey burgers or even go vegetarian ... I can't stand preparing the turkey itself; what gets me is the part where you stick your hands inside the bird. Brr! I can do it, but the bird never tastes very good (to me) afterwards. Making pies and rolls is more to my liking.
This year, at my mom and dad's, we are having: turkey & stuffing, cranberry relish, green beans, mashed potatoes, yams, pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, apple pie, and mulberry pie (the mulberry pie isn't a regular every year, but I had some on hand, so why not?)
By the way, Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
