I hadn't thought of it that way, either. There is a sort of twilight quality to it. Many scenes were shot in sunny Florida so the lighting really does disguise that well.

I can't wait to see what the image quality is like. It's almost worth buying a blu-ray player just for this...and How Green Was My Valley is coming to Blu soon, too.

This is going to look great! The first time I saw this classic was in a theatre in Chicago. Help me, Chio. 1979. Near the whole Lincoln/Halsted/Fullerton area. Not The Biograph. Not The Three Penny. I may not remember the theater. But I'll never forget the movie!

I highly recommend anyone who doesn't yet have blu-ray to upgrade in anticipation of The Quiet Man. You'll need at minimum not just the player but a 40" 1080p HDTV... it will be worth the money for those who can swing it in these tight financial times.

Now, if only Warner would remaster 3 Godfathers and She Wore a Yellow Ribbon for blu...

The VHS version of "The Quiet Man" looks better than the DVD release. The one thing I would keep my DVD for is the commentary by Maureen O'Hara. The Blu Ray is for me.

Well, now, then I'm stumped (by the way, the Biograph is now a theater for stage productions and the Three Penny is a restaurant and concert venue operated by Schuba's).

Maybe the Parkway, formerly at Lincoln/Diversey? It was the best revival theater in town back in the (shudder) late-'70s, early-'80s. That's where I first saw on the big screen CITIZEN KANE (speaking of John Ford).

Definitely not The Parkway. Loved that place! Maybe it was Three Penny after all. It was on a corner. Of course, what isn't on a corner on that block?

The Three Penny was next to The Seminary -- the best all-night diner in the neighborhood (now...a McDonald's.... It's the way of the world.), which was on the north-northwest corner.

Ahhh...the Three Penny. Mrs. ChiO's and my first date. We saw THE YEAR OF LIVING DANGEROUSLY. Little did we know.

The Warner Archive Collection has posted on its Facebook page that it has completed a 16x9 remaster of The Rising of the Moon for a release sometime in 2013. No news on 7 Women (the other title that was asked about).
