Kinda silly, but a fun glimpse into Basil Rathbone: The Man:

That was funny, Stone. I could imagine that Rathbone was a hoot at those parties he threw with his wife Oona.

Well, yes, Joe, though unfortunately we all know that it was those famous Ouida parties that drove poor Basil in his later years to appear in such dreck as HILLYBILLYS IN A HAUNTED HOUSE and AUTOPSY OF A GHOST and apparently leaving his widow with an estate valued at about $10,000.

Apparently it was Ouida's fault, Stone. If you wanna play, ya gotta pay.

True Joe. But how tragic for one to go from the lavish Hollywood lifestyle to depending off the support of friends, as apparently was the case with Ouida.

In a bio of Rathbone, the author recounts an incident where Basil was almost in tears, explaining to a co-worker how Ouida's parties were breaking him. And that truly must have been the case. Basil was a top Hollywood freelancer in the 30s (earning about five grand weekly) and should have died a wealthy man. Instead he ended up working in crap to keep afloat. I hear echoes of John Carradine here . . .

Gosh, Juanita Quigley bears a strong resemblance to our beloved Sybil Jason.

This morning on our nostalgia radio station they played "The Thing" by Phil Harris. Now I know why.

What a lovely, lovely picture of the Duffs at home. It seems almost like a glimpse beyond The End of "Woman in Hiding". Only better.
