Very alert to the toilet paper supply and so forth. But you cannot keep that thought in your mind that you made up and were proud of and should have been written down but wasn’t and you walk from one room to the other and you’ve forgotten even the thing you were trying remember. Donald Westlake has a posthumous novel maybe still in print — Memory. (. . . there is a movie like that, maybe with Brad Pitt or one of those boys and he continually has to do notes and put them on the fridge and he sort of descends into a world without memory, or something like that. I can’t remember.)
I think the film you're thinking of here Thompson is MOMENTO, which starred Guy Pearce.

(...btw, you're not alone in this, my friend...seems I'm doing this very same sort'a thing more and more myself recently)

Any of the Hope and Crosby Road movies or Flagg and Quirt comedies (e.g., The Cock-Eyed World) as well as Not with My Wife, You Don't!

The movie I had in mind was The Graduate, when Benjamin Braddock kisses Mrs. Robinson.
