Deleting posts

Post by LawrenceA »

I tried deleting a few posts today, and it wouldn't let me delete several of them. I was wondering if anyone could explain why. They were all in the "What are you listening to" thread, and each post consisted of short text and a YouTube embed. It let me delete one of them completely, but not the others.

It is my understanding that you are allowed to delete a post if there are no posts after it.

The software numbers the posts for its index. It is able to reset the counter of what is to be the next post. It is not able to go back and renumber the posts between the post you wish to delete and the most recent post.

One cannot delete a post if it has either been quoted or replied to.

So no one ever answered me before...is there a way to delete one's account?

No, no there's not!

(...and in YOUR case, don't even THINK about it!) ;)

Okay, I want to know too.
How do I close my account?
I belong to another forum where I can't delete my account without going through Admin.
This forum seems the same way. I had to get Admin help for changes.
I'd rather be in control.
Admin here is very helpful and prompt.
That isn't my point.
I am interested in knowing why LawrenceA is asking the question.
What can I do and not do with my own account?

Why not just ask a moderator? At least you'll get an answer.

Isn't that what I've been doing? Or do they not read this message board?

I would suggest you go to private messages (next to your name). Then Send it to Lomm.

Why? Is this some sort of secret, forbidden knowledge? I'm not getting all the weirdness about this.

I would have to defer to Lomm, but for my side of things there is an option (at the most) for a moderator to delete all posts. I don't see an option to delete an account.

I can delete an account, but I would rather not. :) There's no way to self delete from a PHPBB board.

I think it would be classified as a technical issue and therefore best answers will come from the technical people. Even moderators may not be aware of all this and therefore would be reluctant to answer. Also, the regular members are unlikely to be able to respond. Hence the lack of answers to your question.

On this and other forums, when I have a very technical question, I will PM an expert rather than just post on a thread.

I noted that Lomm did eventually respond. But I think it is asking too much to assume that moderators and administrators really read every single post and will respond to them.
