laffite wrote: February 28th, 2023, 12:23 am You didn't read carefully, Lawrence. I even termed "puerile" a misconception. did you read it at all or just the last sentence?
I read your entire post & agreed with Lawrence's response.
Your post comes across like you're baiting for an attack rather than participating in conversation.

I've never seen Top Gun nor any of the Harry Potter movies either.

The only reason I've seen The Shining & Lord Of The Rings is because of going into the wrong theater! Although The Shining scared me out of my mind, I became a huge Kubrick fan because of it.
Really? I'm not baiting anyone. I backed off from the the puerile thing, admitted that there are two members here who I respect that love horror movies, and that has changed my outlook about it. I expressed a desire to know a horror movie that I might enjoy. You misread me. And to do that is to color me ironic and sarcastic. That was not my intention at all. But I don't blame you. It was not a good post and I see that I am not communicating properly.

And what about all that 'theory' stuff. Was that baiting? That is all true, And that was the lead in to the notion that perhaps just the right movie could turn the tide for me. Is that baiting? The where are yoooo at the end was just fanciful not sarcasm.

No, I did not misread you. I'm not going to get into an argument with you, but your request for a good "starter" horror movie was overshadowed by the rest of the post's negativity.

As I said before, it's quite likely that you won't find one that changes your overall opinion of the genre, and that's something you'd probably do better to accept. My emphasis on your "puerile" comment was also due to your past repeated similar statements about the genre, and more specifically, those that enjoy it.

Here's a list of older horror titles that you could try out that are less likely to have extreme content:

And here's a list of newer titles that may contain more "R-rated" material:

Thanks, Lawrence. Appreciated.

I have bookmarked both links. I have seen a few of these.. Psycho and The Birds. Vampry '31 was underwhelming but that was a long time ago. I think it needed to be more scary if I recall right. I have seen Carrie, not remembering much. In my impoverished mind, these did not seem Horror, per se. I'm recalling that now, not at the time. And my "confession" I did like the original Dracula '31. Maybe I am not so hopeless after all. Ha.

For me it's musicals. I generally avoid most, but there are a few I really like. But a few I've never seen because they never sounded interesting to me are;

FUNNY GIRL

This is an interesting thread.
I have not seen and avoid movies that will give me bad dreams.
I prefer movies that are fun. Suspense is good though.
I have to laugh up my sleeve at those who don't care for musicals.
Anyone who has not seen RV with Robin Williams should.
If I want to be frightened and depressed, there's always the Evening News.
Awakenings, also Robin Williams, is a wonderful film.

laffite: Perhaps you might consider horror with no gore. I have been told that most men find: Anita Liberty (1997) to be quite horrific due to the primal fear of having a person such as that in their life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLHGzN-NBX0

TikiSoo: I understand well that the: "misunderstood child has special powers" schtick might not appeal to you. I will be sufficiently forward to suggest that you nevertheless watch: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) because it does not follow its type. It relies on personalities rather than special effects. The CGI blends in to such a degree that it becomes invisible and supports the scenes rather than being the dominant factor. It has also: Alan Rickman and: Maggie Smith which are two very good reasons to give any movie a try.

Well LawrenceA, I guess you aren't old enough for the discount at iHop, as I mentioned in the birthday thread.
Sepiatone probably won't mind if I jump in and tell you what it is.

I suspect many have not seen one of these either:

If someone says you can put a 3 inch CD in a slot load optical drive, do not listen.

:off:

Getting back on track, I have not seen ET.

This thread could prove embarrassing.

The phonograph I had used a little centerpiece that popped up as needed for different sized records. I never saw anyone use one of those.

I turned 123 on Sunday. This site had it listed as 100, but that's only because it wouldn't let me go back far enough to my actual birth year.

We don't have IHOP here, only Waffle House. If you ask for a senior special there, they stab you.
Watching until the end.

Would you like to take over my "Now Playing 100 Years Ago" thread? I imagine you've seen most of those lost films. :D
