Message Board GEM of the WEEK

Post by TikiSoo »

I've been a member of internet message boards since 1992, when they looked like CRT print-outs.
One very active group had a thread, "Gem of the Day" and people would randomly post some quote that made them laugh out loud that day-often made funnier out of context.

This board isn't quite as active -being a private group- but exceptionally literate & clever, so thought I'd start our own GEM thread.
If someone's post tickles your fancy enough to quote it, please include the name of the poster & thread where it's found.

I suppose this could end up a thread exclusively of Lorna posts so think I'll start off with a Swithin quote in thread: I just Watched...

THE GREEN KNIGHT ’21…..In the movie, Gawain (well played by Dev Patel), is not heroic at all. He blunders the challenges along the way. In the poem, Sir Gawain rebuffs a married woman who wants to have sex with him. In the movie, Gawain not only has sex with her, YOU ACTUALLY SEE THE SEMEN! I ask you, WHOEVER SAW SEMEN IN A NON-PORNO FILM?!! THERE IS NO CUMSHOT IN THE POEM!

Missed this in the other thread, but There's Something About Mary had a very infamous scene where Cameron Diaz's character mistook said substance for hair gel...

OK, here's what I consider a Lorna Gem, also in the I Just Watched thread referring to recent Japanese movie kick:

there are varying reasons why STORIES SET DURING THIS VOLATILE TIME PERIOD pique me interest- among them are the facts that I love BLACK AND WHITE CINEMATOGRAPHY and THE SOUND OF RUSTLING BAMBOO...but I think my current affaire d'couer with TALES of FEUDAL JAPAN is because I see a DEFINITE parallel to the world we live in today- where in spite of great cultural achievements and advancements, unfettered capitalism has cemented evil men in power while everyone else is deadassed broke and there's a 1/10 chance you'll be killed leaving your house (odds may vary in your state.)

LOL, thank you Tiki! I had to think twice as to whether it would be appropriate to post those comments. Happy New Year!

Well, they did have a movie (with wretched reviews) in the late 60s that was called The Extraordinary Seaman.

Might I suggest Lorna's critique of Ann Turkel's hair?
DAMN! it will not let me post a pic of ANN TURKEL in that GREEN JUMPSUIT, but what makes the dress EVEN UGLIER ON HER THAN ELEANOR is that SHE HAS DAVID LEE ROTH HAIR, LIKE 36 INCHES OF HIGHLY TEASED, HEAVILY PROCESSED, BLEACHED TO THE NTH DEGREE HAIR AND HARD BANGS- and they just leave it down, which just is like chef's kiss for the look getting in the FUGLY HALL OF FAME.

For me, the post that was last week's Gem of the Week was this one by Bronxgirl48 in the Theater topic in the Off Topic General Chat forum:

Late 1970's Los Angeles, I saw Ron Moody backstage in his underwear at a production of OLIVER. He wasn't very friendly.

Holden, on behalf of Ron Moody and his knickers, I thank you. It's an honor, and certainly an honor being even thought of in the same league as our great Lorna!
